TOK Exhibition – CAS Project

In my CAS project, I was given the task of organising the TOK Exhibition where Grade 12 students were to give their commentaries to Grade 11 classes. The event entailed 14 presenters who swivelled through 7 classrooms of TOK and each pair made a 12-minute presentation and a brief question and answer session. I was to prepare a comprehensive classroom schedule, organize students in batches, notify DPTs and participants, plan the required resources, and present the reminder in advance. It was also my duty to facilitate the receiving of the feedback forms of Grade 11 students to determine the effectiveness of the entire exhibition.

LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
I realised that I was strong in generating systematic, well-planned plans that worked out the event easily. Meanwhile, I knew that I should do better with last-minute adjustments like missing presenters or last-minute timing mistakes.

LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
One of the problems was organizing several individuals and time and ensuring that all classrooms were covered. I also gained greater organisational and problem-solving skills because I learned to expect overlaps and modify the plan within a short time.

LO3 – Initiate and plan a CAS experience
I was proactive by writing the entire plan of the event and getting the teachers on board, communicating with all the 14 presenters, and establishing the Grade 11 feedback mechanism. This necessitated putting in place plans long before the time and dividing the work into small bits.

LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience
The preparation process took a number of weeks and it had to make regular follow-ups, update and changes had to be made to accommodate changes. It was my determination that made sure that every detail was taken into consideration as well as making all the participants stay updated.

LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
In spite of the fact that I was the leader of the organisation, teamwork played a key role. I collaborated with presenters, DPTs, and student volunteers, which was based on effective communication and the distribution of tasks that ensured the smooth running of the event.

The TOK Exhibition was a challenging experience to plan and coordinate my team, but it was a rewarding experience. The communication between the teachers and students, monitoring numerous moving components, and adjusting to the last-minute changes taught me that the preparation and coordination are as significant as the presentations themselves. Above all, I got to know that any event can be more effective and efficient with good teamwork.
