Pad Awareness – Project

As part of my CAS journey I took part in a pad awareness campaign at two government schools: Mahavir Hindi Vidhyalay and Bhagvati Hindi Vidyalay. The goal of this program was to raise awareness about menstruation hygiene, deliver sanitary pads to students and teach them how to produce reusable pads during a guided workshop. This experience was valuable because it combined service, activity and creativity we served the community by addressing a critical health and social issue, participated in interactive sessions with students and honed our creative skills in manufacturing sustainable pads. Menstrual hygiene is an important but frequently misunderstood topic and through this CAS initiative I was able to contribute toward breaking taboos motivating young girls and encouraging health and education

LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

This CAS experience allowed me to think on my own abilities and limitations. I saw my strength as being sympathetic and personable which enabled me to connect with students and help them feel comfortable discussing difficult topics such as menstruation. My ability to talk openly and patiently made the sessions more engaging. At the same time I identified opportunities for improvement such as increasing confidence while addressing larger audiences and employing more effective public-speaking strategies to captivate an audience. This self-awareness drove me to improve my communication style and gain confidence in beginning discussions about socially sensitive topics

LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills

The initiative had challenges particularly because menstruation is frequently considered a taboo subject. Initially it was difficult to openly address menstruation hygiene in a way that was both instructive and culturally sensitive. Another problem was making sure the information we supplied was correct and easy to understand for young kids. Overcoming these challenges enabled me to learn new abilities such as presenting information clearly using simple language and handling delicate questions with sensitivity. In addition we went to a session where we learnt how to manufacture reusable cloth pads, which was absolutely new to me. This exercise combined creativity and sustainability teaching me how inventive solutions can be both economical and environmentally friendly. these shaped me into adaptable and resourceful learner

LO3: Initiate and plan a CAS experience

This initiative required thorough planning and organization. I was actively involved in the planning process from distributing pads to organizing school-wide awareness workshops. I worked with my peers to plan how we would run the session assign duties and ensure that the activity was effective. We planned the content in advance including key points to highlight about menstrual hygiene and demonstrations of reusable pad-making. This experience improved my capacity for starting and carrying out important projects as I learnt that proper planning is critical for ensuring smooth operation and the greatest effect

LO4: Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience

The achievement of this initiative was based on persistent effort and dedication. Preparing for the workshops, organizing tools and practicing pad-making took time and patience. There were moments of difficulty particularly when discussing taboo themes but my dedication to the cause kept me going. By persevering through these difficulties I developed confidence and recognized that lasting social change requires consistent work. My dedication to the experience represented my belief in the importance of menstrual hygiene education and my commitment to bringing positive change to the community

LO5: Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively

Collaboration was a significant component of this CAS experience. I collaborated with friends and facilitators to run the workshop and collaboration meant that duties were efficiently shared. Some of us conducted conversation while others managed distribution and demonstrated pad-making. When we learnt how to produce reusable pads we helped each other by sharing supplies, techniques and ideas so that everyone could do it properly. This showed me the importance of teamwork as the project would not have been possible without collaboration and mutual support. Working together also allowed us to learn from each other’s talents some were good presenters while others excelled at practical demonstrations. We worked together to establish a safe and supportive environment for the students increasing the project’s impact

LO6: Engagement with issues of global significance

Menstrual hygiene is a global issue that affects health, education, gender equality and human rights. Millions of girls around the world miss school because of a lack of sanitary products or the taboo related to menstruation. By participating in this effort I address a global issue that impacts communities particularly in developing nations.  Improving menstrual hygiene is associated with the sustainable development goals like good health and well-being, gender equality, quality education and reduced inequalities.  Learning to create reusable pads was also important globally since it linked to responsible consumption and production by encouraging environmentally friendly alternatives to throwaway pads. This event taught me how local acts can help to address global challenges confirming my duty as a responsible global citizen

LO7: Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions

The ethical side of this event was really essential. We had to make sure that the information we supplied was correct, respectful and socially appropriate. Discussing menstruation required building a safe and nonjudgmental environment in which kids could feel comfortable asking questions. Furthermore by learning about and promoting the use of reusable cloth pads we promoted an ethical decision that promotes both equality in society and environmental sustainability. This event taught me the necessity of considering the moral consequences of my actions and not only what we do but how we do it can have a long-term impact on individuals and the community

Final takeaways

The pad awareness initiative was one of the most impactful CAS experiences I had. It combined creativity, activity and service allowing me to develop personally and contribute to the community. I discovered my strengths learned new skills, worked with others and addressed a global issue. Most significantly I learnt that simple efforts such as raising awareness distributing pads and learning to produce sustainable alternatives may have a major positive impact on people’s lives. This CAS experience helped me grow as a more caring, reflective and open-minded learner while confirming my commitment to ethics and social responsibility
