Kalakriti was a lively event featuring dance and drama, and I had the thrilling chance to work as a photographer. My job involved taking pictures of important moments during the performances, making sure to capture the excitement, emotions, and stories presented at the event. This called for a sharp eye for detail, fast reflexes, and knowledge of lighting and angles to create attractive images. Through this experience, I merged my love for photography with a valuable contribution to the event, aiding in recording the talent and effort of the performers.
LOI 1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
I noticed that I was good at setting up and timing my shots, but I understood that I had to get better at changing the camera settings for taking photos in dim lighting at performances. This occasion allowed me to learn about and enhance these technical skills.
LOI 2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
Taking pictures of things of the dance and drama in unexpected light was difficult, making me try out various camera settings such as shutter speed and ISO. This experience improved my ability to adjust in photography and my skills in solving problems.
LOI 4 – Show commitment and perseverance in CAS experiences
During the entire occasion, I stayed attentive and took initiative, constantly changing my perspectives and adjustments to get great photographs. Even when a few pictures didn’t come out the way I wanted, I persevered and modified my approach until I took the finest images I could.
LOI 7 – Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
Because my job required me to take pictures of artists, I was careful about their privacy and showed them respect, making sure to only take suitable photos and get permission when needed.
Taking pictures at Kalakriti was a fun and satisfying opportunity that enhanced my love for photography while enabling me to play a meaningful role in a creative happening. I gained technical knowledge in event photography, became better at handling pressure, and discovered how vital visual storytelling is. Catching the feelings and excitement of the performers was a rewarding job, and witnessing people enjoy my photos made all the hard work pay off. This experience strengthened my belief in the significance of art, record-keeping, and creative expression in honoring cultural celebrations.
