For the Global Odyssey event, I participated in the Food section along with two of my classmates, where we operated a food stall selling pink lemonade and cake pops. As part of the event, I not only worked as part of the team but also took on a leadership role to oversee the management of the food section. This involved coordinating logistics, making decisions about our branding, and ensuring that our food offerings were diverse and not repetitive, while providing guidance to other teams when needed.
LO 3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS event
A significant amount of planning went into the success of this event. My team and I took the time to brainstorm and carefully allocate our resources. We created a budget and ensured that our financial decisions were in line with the projected costs for the stall, from food supplies to decorations. Our group held several meetings to discuss the flow of preparation, assigning roles to team members, and planning how we would serve each item efficiently. On the day of the event, we adhered to our plan, and my leadership ensured that each member knew their role, contributing to a smooth operation throughout the day.
LO 5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
Collaboration was crucial to the success of our food stall. Despite the various deadlines and tasks, my team and I worked together seamlessly, supporting one another and balancing responsibilities according to our strengths. By recognizing each team member’s individual skills, we managed to efficiently prepare and run our stall. This experience greatly improved my ability to collaborate, highlighting the importance of teamwork in achieving goals and working under pressure. I realized that, through effective collaboration, not only can tasks be completed faster, but the overall quality of the work increases.
Reflection on Learning and Personal Growth:
This project taught me valuable lessons in both business management and economics. From understanding how to budget, manage a team, and execute a business plan, I gained insight into the real-world challenges faced when running a business. Furthermore, the leadership and teamwork skills I developed have made me more confident in collaborative environments and have shown me how critical communication and shared responsibility are to any project’s success.
Through the planning, execution, and reflection phases, I was able to observe firsthand how businesses run in a competitive environment. This event helped me connect theoretical knowledge from my Business Management and Economics studies to practical applications, allowing me to see the real-world impact of well-thought-out business strategies.
