Decorating Dreams: My Experience with Global Odyssey

For weeks, the excitement around Global Odyssey had been growing. I was thrilled to be a part of this yearly event, which is known for its tagline of “Food, Fun, and Games,” as a BM student. I decided to join the decor crew because I was drawn to the chance to use my creativity to assist turn our venue into a lively and inviting area. The planning started in January, and the days leading up to the big day on January 31st were filled with ideation, making, and coordination. Visually bringing the “Food, Fun, and Games” concept to life was the aim of our team.

LO2: Demonstrating that Challenges Have Been Undertaken, Developing New Skills

Global Odyssey presented several challenges. Representing “Food, Fun, and Games” visually required creative brainstorming. A major challenge was working within a budget while ensuring attractive and functional decorations. This demanded resourcefulness. We recycled materials, like using old jars, a sustainable solution. My duties, like creating the welcome banner and hanging decorations, also presented challenges. The event day was hectic, with last-minute snags requiring teamwork. Overcoming these challenges developed my problem-solving and collaboration skills.

LO4: Showing Perseverance and Commitment in CAS Experience

My Global Odyssey involvement required sustained effort. From January planning to the January 31st event, I dedicated significant time. This included brainstorming, gathering materials, creating designs, and team coordination. Even on the hectic event day, I remained committed, working with the team to address issues. This sustained involvement demonstrates perseverance and commitment.

LO5: Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively

Working on the decor crew provided invaluable collaboration experience. From initial concepts to final decorations, teamwork was essential. We leveraged each other’s strengths, dividing tasks. Discussions about design, materials, and problem-solving were collaborative. This highlighted the benefits of teamwork: increased creativity, efficient task completion, and a shared sense of accomplishment.

LO7: Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions

Global Odyssey brought ethical considerations to the forefront, particularly regarding resourcefulness and sustainability. Recycling materials, like using old jars, wasn’t just practical; it was a conscious choice to minimize waste. We discussed the environmental impact of our choices and sought ways to reduce our footprint. This reinforced the importance of responsible resource management and ethical decision-making.
