Experience
For my CAS service experience, I participated in a 6 day Community Service programme. I was part of the Arts and Craft group, where my team and I taught children from underprivileged schools. Our aim was to give them a space where they could freely enjoy and have fun with drawing, painting, and crafts, helping them build confidence and creativity along the way. Many of these children lack access to such opportunities, and we aimed to bridge that gap by making art an enjoyable and educational experience. Throughout this journey, I hoped to develop patience, teamwork, and leadership skills while making a positive impact on their lives.

Reflection on Learning Outcomes Achieved
LO3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
Planning the sessions required thoughtful preparation. We had to decide on age-appropriate activities, gather materials, and create a structured yet flexible plan to keep the children engaged. I realized the importance of organization and adaptability, as each session brought unexpected challenges that we had to navigate efficiently. This experience enhanced my ability to take initiative and manage events effectively.
LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
Working with my team was essential to delivering meaningful lessons. We divided the responsibilities, supported each other in managing children, and ensured that each child gets attention. I noticed that cooperation and collaboration made the process smooth and more enjoyable, as various approaches and skills contributed to a rich experience for children. This strengthened my teamwork and communication skills.
LO6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
Education inequality is a global issue, and this experience gave me firsthand insight into its impact. The children I worked with had limited access to creative learning, which is important for cognitive and emotional development. By actively engaging with them, I contributed to a small yet meaningful attempt to make education more accessible. This experience strengthened my commitment to address social issues and promote equal opportunities.
LO7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
Teaching children from underprivileged backgrounds required ethical responsibility. We had to ensure that our actions were inclusive, respectful, and culturally appropriate. We also had to be mindful of our teaching methods, making sure they were encouraging rather than overwhelming. This experience made me more aware of the ethical implications of service work and the importance of treating all individuals with dignity and respect.
Learner Profile Attributes Developed
Caring: I demonstrated the learner profile Caring because I developed a deeper sense of empathy and responsibility by working closely with the children. I ensured that each kid felt valued and supported.
Communicator: I demonstrated the learner profile Communicator during teaching and guiding the students. I tried to simplify the concepts so they can understand well. I also tried my best to engage with the students effectively while also listening to their doubts and needs. Furthermore, I tried to switch between languages to ensure that every child was understanding me. I admit that it was a little hard to communicate with the smallest kids as they weren’t ready to listen to me, however, with time, they got accustomed to me and paid attention.
Reflective: I demonstrated the learner profile Reflective because after each session, I would reflect on what worked out well that day and what could have been done better. I thought about how I can improve what I was doing to make the learning and activity more fun and enjoyable for the students. This constant self-reflection helped me grow throughout the experience.
Open-Minded: I demonstrated the learner profile Open-Minded by accepting different perspectives and appreciating every child’s method of creativity. I also demonstrated the learner profile by being mindful about my actions, teaching methods, and not making any child feel low or inferior.
Balanced: Managing my responsibilities while staying engaged in service taught me the importance of time management and self-care.

Final Takeaway
This CAS experience was deeply rewarding, both personally and socially. Being with the kids taught me how to be happy even with little things. Furthermore, the experience reinforced my belief that small efforts can make a meaningful difference. I also developed patience, teamwork, and leadership skills that I can apply to other coming projects. More importantly, seeing the joy on the children’s faces made me realize that service is not just about giving, it is also about learning, growing, and connecting with others in a meaningful way. This experience has inspired me to continue engaging in community service and finding ways to contribute positively to society.
