FS Got Talent brought together students of Grades 7-12 to celebrate talent across grades and artforms! I was a part of the Organizing Committee and was also a participant, who won under the ‘Band’ segment along with 4 of my bandmates. Read this blog to find out how this experience has helped me develop academically and on a personal level!
This event was one where I was able to express my creativity through my performance and through decor! I was able to demonstrate many Learning Outcomes through this experience, which I will discuss as this CAS blog progresses.
LO1 : Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Participating in FS Got Talent allowed me to recognize my strengths and areas for improvement. As a member of the decor team, I enhanced my creativity, teamwork, and time management skills by contributing to the event’s visual appeal. This experience helped me realize my ability to collaborate effectively and think innovatively under pressure. Additionally, participating and winning boosted my confidence and reinforced my perseverance and dedication. It highlighted my ability to perform under pressure and engage an audience. However, it also showed me areas for growth, such as improving my stage presence and refining my performance techniques.
LO2 : Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.
Participating in FS Got Talent presented multiple challenges that pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me develop new skills. As part of the decor team, I was challenged with a lot of tasks on hand, whether it was on day, trying to complete everything before the audiences arrive or even before, trying to figure out the decor for each venue. This required me to think creatively, manage resources efficiently, and collaborate closely with my team to ensure everything was completed on time.
Additionally, performing in the talent show and winning was a personal challenge. I had to overcome stage anxiety, perfect my performance, and ensure I engaged the audience effectively. This experience helped me develop confidence, resilience, and adaptability, as I learned to manage nerves and deliver a strong performance.
LO3 : Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience.
For FS Got Talent, I took the initiative to be part of both the decor team and the talent show. As part of the decor team, I worked with others to come up with ideas, gather materials, and set up the venue to make it look appealing. This required teamwork, creativity, and good time management to get everything done on time. At the same time, I prepared for my performance by practicing regularly and improving my confidence on stage. Balancing both roles was challenging, but with careful planning and effort, I managed to do both successfully. Winning the competition made me realize the importance of hard work, organization, and pushing myself to try new things.
As I conclude this blog, I would like to thank all those who’ve helped me in this journey, and thank the teachers for providing me this opportunity to grow and learn.
