Following the success of our bake sale, we used the money we gained to buy books and donated them to two non-governmental organizations that help the education and well-being of children. However, we wanted to make a deeper impact beyond financial contributions, therefore Additionally, we placed donation boxes throughout our school and made announcements in the staff lounge and even in the classrooms that we would be providing the nearest box to them for a week. While simultaneously putting up posters about the donation drive and their contribution in it across the school. Above all, the experience reinforced the significance of service and the impact we can create through small yet thoughtful actions.
LO7 – The ethics of choices and actions
I was able to understand the ethical significance of service and the impact of our actions on others during the donation drive. I realized during the initiative’s planning that true service involves empathy and respect in addition to providing tangible assistance. We didn’t see the donations as a kind act; instead, we made sure they were provided with thought and that our plan respected the individual’s dignity. Making moral choices about how to distribute resources and explain our mission also made it clearer to me how crucial accountability and openness are. I learned from this experience that every act of service has moral significance and that making a significant and considerate contribution to the community requires ethical awareness. LO6
