Global Odyssey

For my CAS experience, I participated in Global Odyssey, a student-led event organized as part of the Business Management and Economy curriculum. This event provided students with a hands-on entrepreneurial experience, allowing them to form groups, set up stalls, and sell their own products. My role as a decor member involved planning and executing the event’s decoration according to a specific color theme, ensuring that the ambiance enhanced the overall experience for both participants and customers. This experience allowed me to explore my creativity, teamwork, and organizational skills in a real-world setting.

LO1 – Identify Own Strengths and Develop Areas for Growth

As a decor member, I recognized my strengths in creativity and artistic planning. I was able to conceptualize a visually appealing event setup that aligned with the theme. However, I also identified areas for growth, such as time management and adaptability. Due to unforeseen challenges like last-minute material shortages and space constraints, I learned to adjust my plans quickly and work efficiently under pressure. This experience helped me improve my ability to think on my feet and make strategic decisions to ensure the successful execution of the event decor. Additionally, this experience contributed to the sustainability goal of Decent Work and Economic Growth, as my role in enhancing the event’s ambiance helped attract customers and promote student entrepreneurship. Furthermore, I developed the Thinker attribute by designing and implementing creative decor solutions while considering space, resources, and event logistics.

LO2 – Demonstrate That Challenges Have Been Undertaken, Developing New Skills

The Global Odyssey event presented several challenges, including coordinating with different teams, managing resources effectively, and ensuring timely completion of the decorations. As part of the decor team, I faced difficulties such as limited supplies and a tight schedule. To overcome these obstacles, I developed new skills such as problem-solving, resourcefulness, and effective communication. I learned how to repurpose materials creatively and delegate tasks among team members to enhance efficiency. These new skills not only helped in the successful execution of the event but also contributed to my overall personal and professional development. Through this experience, I further aligned with the Decent Work and Economic Growth sustainability goal by improving my ability to adapt and innovate within a real-world business event. Additionally, I developed the Reflective attribute by evaluating my performance and considering improvements for future events.

LO4 – Show Perseverance and Commitment in CAS Experience

Throughout the planning and execution process, I demonstrated perseverance and commitment to my role. Despite facing challenges such as last-minute changes and time constraints, I remained dedicated to ensuring that the decor enhanced the event’s overall appeal. I actively participated in brainstorming sessions, worked extended hours to finalize decorations, and ensured that every detail aligned with the event’s theme. This commitment allowed me to play a significant role in the event’s success, reinforcing my ability to stay motivated and focused on long-term goals. My perseverance also contributed to the Decent Work and Economic Growth sustainability goal, as maintaining a well-decorated environment supported a positive marketplace experience. Additionally, I demonstrated the Balanced attribute by managing my time effectively between my decoration responsibilities and academic commitments.

LO5 – Demonstrate Skills and Benefits of Working Collaboratively

Collaboration was a key component of my role in Global Odyssey. Working with fellow decor team members, event organizers, and stall owners required effective communication and teamwork. I contributed by sharing creative ideas, listening to others’ perspectives, and ensuring that the decor aligned with the overall event vision. This experience taught me the importance of team dynamics, task delegation, and collective problem-solving, demonstrating that successful outcomes are achieved through shared efforts and cooperation. By working together efficiently, we enhanced the event’s appeal, further supporting the Decent Work and Economic Growth sustainability goal by attracting more participants and customers. Additionally, I developed the Communicator attribute by collaborating effectively with my team to execute a well-coordinated decoration setup.
