Organising a food stall selling cake pops and lemonade at the Global Odyssey event and donating the earnings is a fantastic CAS experience. Managing the food stall during the event required quick thinking, problem-solving, and efficient customer service. We had to handle cash transactions, maintain hygiene standards, and ensure a smooth flow of customers. Baking and decorating hundreds of cake pops and preparing large quantities of lemonade required significant physical effort.
LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills.
We reflected on the impact of our efforts and the importance of giving back to the community. We discussed how our experience had contributed to our personal growth and development. We considered how we could improve our food stall operation in the future.
LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience.
We faced challenges, such as unexpected equipment malfunctions and high customer demand. However, we persevered and worked together to find solutions. We were committed to the project from the planning stages to the donation of the funds. This required a lot of time, and effort. We maintained a positive attitude, even when faced with difficult situations.
LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
We worked as a team, supporting each other and ensuring that everyone felt valued and included. We recognized the need to divide tasks based on individual strengths and preferences. Some team members excelled at baking and decorating, while others were more comfortable handling sales and customer service. This collaborative approach allowed us to maximize our efficiency.
LO6 – Engagement with issues of global significance.
We wanted to make a contribution that had global significance, so we researched charities that operate internationally, or that address issues that are present across the globe.
LO7 – Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions.
We considered the ethics of how we presented our fundraising efforts, ensuring transparency and honesty in our communication with customers. We discussed the importance of ensuring that the donated funds would be used ethically and effectively by the chosen charity. We had to consider fair pricing, and not overcharging people for the products.
