Introduction
Rock climbing is not just a test of physical strength but also of mental endurance, teamwork, and resilience. Taking on this challenge as part of CAS pushed us beyond our comfort zones, requiring determination and collaboration to succeed. The experience reinforced the importance of perseverance in the face of difficulties and the benefits of working together toward a shared goal. Through this activity, we addressed two key CAS Learning Outcomes: showing perseverance and commitment (LO4) and demonstrating the skills and benefits of working collaboratively (LO5).
Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience (LO4)
Rock climbing demanded sustained effort and persistence. Every ascent came with obstacles—slippery surfaces, difficult handholds, and moments of self-doubt. Some climbs were more physically demanding than expected, requiring multiple attempts to reach the top. However, giving up was not an option. Over time, we learned to embrace the challenge, improving our grip, balance, and endurance with each attempt. The experience taught us that progress is built through persistence, and even the smallest achievements—like reaching a higher point than before—were signs of growth.

Although rock climbing is often seen as an individual sport, teamwork played a crucial role in our success. Belayers ensured our safety, teammates provided guidance on navigating tricky routes, and words of encouragement motivated us to push forward. Trust was essential, especially when relying on others for support and safety. This experience highlighted the importance of clear communication, coordination, and mutual support. Without teamwork, the challenge would have been much more difficult, proving that collaboration enhances both performance and overall experience.
Conclusion
Rock climbing was more than just a physical activity—it was a lesson in resilience, trust, and the power of teamwork. The perseverance needed to overcome challenges and the reliance on others for support made this experience both demanding and rewarding. By embracing the difficulties and working together, we not only conquered the climb but also developed skills that extend beyond the rock face.
