Global Odyssey, CAS Project

Global Odyssey is a highlight of our school year, a vibrant celebration of diverse cultures that brings our community together. This year, I had the exciting opportunity to lead the decor team, a role that allowed me to contribute to the event’s atmosphere in a unique and meaningful way. Transforming our school spaces into immersive cultural experiences was a creative challenge that I eagerly embraced. From planning the overall aesthetic to coordinating the intricate details, the project was a journey of collaboration and innovation. This experience as decor leader became a valuable CAS project, offering insights into leadership and creative problem-solving.”

LO 1: Identifying Strengths and Growth: I discovered my strength in conceptualizing and planning the overall aesthetic, but I also recognized a need to improve my delegation skills. Initially, I struggled with distributing tasks effectively, but I learned to better utilize my team’s individual talents.

LO 2: Embracing Challenges and Cultivating New Skills: Transforming our school into a global showcase presented numerous challenges. From sourcing materials within a tight budget to adapting our designs to the available space, we faced constant problem-solving. This required me to learn practical skills like prop construction and fabric manipulation, as well as refining my ability to adapt to unexpected setbacks.

LO 3: As the Decor Team Leader and Event Manager for Global Odyssey, I demonstrated LO3 by initiating and planning all aspects of the event’s visual setup and overall coordination. I led the decor team in developing a cohesive theme, sourced materials, created schedules, and ensured timely execution. Managing communication between food stall teams, performers, and school authorities required strong organizational and leadership skills.

LO 4: Commitment and Perseverance: Leading the decor team demanded a significant time commitment. There were many late nights and moments of stress, especially as the event approached. However, my passion for the project and my desire to create a memorable experience kept me motivated. I consistently dedicated extra hours to ensure our vision was realized.

LO 5: The Power of Collaborative Effort: Global Odyssey’s decor was a true team effort. We collaborated on every aspect, from brainstorming ideas to assembling the final displays. This experience underscored the importance of effective communication and shared decision-making. We learned to value diverse perspectives and leverage each team member’s unique skills.

Global Odyssey was more than just a fun event; it was a valuable opportunity for personal and collaborative growth. As decor leader, I not only contributed to a vibrant celebration of global cultures but also gained essential leadership and practical skills that will serve me well in the future.”
