Participating in a cleaning drive at Dumas Beach and Nanpura Riverfront Walkway was an eye-opening experience that allowed me to contribute to environmental conservation while developing important skills. Seeing the litter scattered across these beautiful locations made me realize the impact of human negligence on nature. This initiative helped me understand my responsibility toward the environment and motivated me to take action.
LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Through this activity, I identified my strengths in teamwork and problem-solving while recognizing areas for growth, such as patience and perseverance. Collecting waste was physically demanding, and at times, it was discouraging to see the amount of trash left behind. However, I learned to stay determined and work efficiently to cover more areas. This experience helped me develop resilience and a greater appreciation for consistent efforts in bringing change.
LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively.
Working collaboratively with my peers made the task more effective and enjoyable. We divided responsibilities, supported each other, and encouraged those who felt tired. Teamwork allowed us to clean larger sections in less time while fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose. I realized how collective action can have a greater impact than individual efforts alone, reinforcing the importance of collaboration in community service.
LO7 – Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions.
This experience also made me reflect on the ethical responsibility we all have toward the environment. The careless disposal of waste harms marine life, pollutes water bodies, and diminishes the beauty of public spaces. By actively participating in the cleanup, I took a step toward making ethical choices and encouraging others to do the same. It reminded me that small actions, like proper waste disposal, can contribute to a larger positive impact.
Conclusion and Connection to LP: thinkerOverall, this experience connected deeply with the Thinker attribute of the IB Learner Profile. IBy identifying the complex problem we came up with a sustainable solution and took responsible action towards the issue. Seeing the transformation of these areas after the cleanup was fulfilling, and it reinforced my commitment to sustainability. This activity was not just about cleaning a place—it was about developing a responsible mindset that I will carry forward in the future.
