I participated in Bal Mela as a volunteer and chose a game of Hula Hoops as a game for the children to play. Initially, my sport was net crawling, but due to unavailability of equipments, I had to change the activity. However, it was a very interesting activity and we could make many variations for them to play.

Learning Outcome 2 : Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
The challenge in Bal Mela was dividing the many children into two groups for a hula loops race, ensuring fairness and following rules. The first child to reach the opposite side won the race. Communication skills were crucial, as the teacher had to explain steps and communicate clearly to ensure understanding. The team had to develop communication skills to ensure the children understood the activity.

Learning Outcome 3 : Initiate and Plan a CAS Experience
Initially, our activity plan was different for the Bal Mela. However, due to unavailability of equipments, we planned games using hula hoops. It was very fun and joyful, and the children also enjoyed the games we made them played. Also, they loved hula hoops, so they were playing even when time was up. This event tested our quick thinking and planning skills as we had less time to prepare the activities for the children.
Learning Outcome 5 : Demonstrate and skills and benefits of working collaboratively
As it was a collaborative event, me, my friends and peers were working together in organizing the game and also the children as they were quite young. The activity was smoothly conducted by us and we also assisted each other whenever required. This collaboration made the activity enjoyable for the children.

Learning Outcome 6 : Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
Bal Mela provided me with a deeper understanding of educational disparities and the importance of providing learning opportunities to underprivileged children. Access to creative expression is often limited for these students, making this experience particularly valuable. Witnessing their joy and enthusiasm reinforced my belief in the power of education and creativity in shaping young minds.
Learning Outcome 7 : Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
Ensuring that our activities were inclusive, respectful, and beneficial to the children was a priority. We had to be mindful of their backgrounds, experiences, and comfort levels while conducting the sessions. This initiative by the school reinforced the importance of ethical decision-making in service initiatives, ensuring that our efforts were both meaningful and respectful.
Conclusion
Bal Mela was a very fulfilling experience that left a lasting impression on the children and on me volunteers. It was not just a day out—it was an opportunity to give back to children, promote inclusiveness, and gain lessons in teamwork, leadership, and adaptability. Witnessing the smiles and joy of the children made all our efforts worth it and motivated me to continue volunteering for projects that make a positive difference in my community.
