Volunteering for community service brings about a positive social change, while simultaneously guiding you in the personal growth journey. To fulfill the requirements of my CAS Service strand, I conducted four workshops on arts and crafts (over eight days) for children attending a government school in Surat. The primary objective was to inspire creative imagination and actively stimulate the academic interests of children who are otherwise unable to enjoy these opportunities. This event was significant for me because I faced various challenges, learned new skills, worked on global issues, and thought about the consequences of my actions, all of which made my learning deeply meaningful.
Learning Outcome 2: Demonstrating That Challenges Have Been Undertaken, Developing New Skills in the Process
The major difficulties that I met for this event involved ensuring that there was effective resource flow, as well as actively engaging young children while also making sure that all activities were enjoyable and simple. I had to adjust the manner in which I interacted with the children, many of whom had little exposure to organized creative work, by reducing my words, waiting a bit for them to respond, and trying to be more considerate while formulating phrases. On top of that, I mastered the ability to think in advance, tackle emerging challenges promptly, and complete tasks under tight deadlines. Conquering these challenges enabled me to hone my organizational, leadership, and adaptability skills, which I am sure will help me in my future service events.

Learning Outcome 6: Demonstrating Engagement with Issues of Global Significance
Gaining access to quality schooling and creative spaces is a challenge on a global scale, primarily for the neglectably poor children. Through this initiative, I helped bridge this gap by offering an inclusive environment where children could express their creativity and acquire new skills. A number of events, like Leaf Art and Animal Crafts, also had elements of biodiversity and environmental preservation integrated in them, gently nurturing the child’s understanding of nature conservation and sustainability. This event sought to address global issues in education and equity in a manner aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on Quality Education (Goal 4) and Reduced Inequalities (Goal 10).

Learning Outcome 7: Recognizing and Considering the Ethics of Choices and Actions
This event required ethical considerations which impacted how I chose materials and methods of engagement. I made sure that every task was culturally sensitive, respectful to all ages, and inarguably charitable. I also attempted to use as little natural and recyclable materials as possible to minimize waste while fostering creativity. Moreover, I sought to enhance self-esteem and participation in a way that allowed every child to express themselves and learn without the fear of failure. This helped me learn about responsible service and pointed out yet again how important ethics is in community work.
This program was a fulfilling experience that gave me the chance to learn important skills, interact with significant social concerns, and consider the ethical responsibilities of service. It was an unforgettable moment to witness the children’s happiness and self assurance as they proudly presented their artwork, and it made me realize the value of education and creativity. This event has taught me that even seemingly insignificant activities may have an important impact, and it has inspired me to keep making use of service as a means of bringing about significant social change.
