As part of our school’s CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) program, we had the incredible opportunity to host the International School Sports Organisation (ISSO) Football Tournament for Under-19 and Under-14 girls. This event was a significant undertaking, requiring us as students to manage logistics, assist the teams, and ensure seamless communication throughout the tournament. From updating teams about match timings and venues to handling various responsibilities, this experience was both challenging and rewarding.
LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
One of the key takeaways from this event was the realization of my strengths in sports management and coordination. Sports has always been a strong suit of mine, and this tournament provided the perfect platform to stay connected to my passion while also developing essential life skills. Through this experience, I identified that I have a natural ability to stay organized and communicate effectively under pressure. However, I also recognized the need to improve my ability to manage last-minute changes efficiently.
LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
Organizing and managing an event of this scale came with its fair share of challenges. Coordinating with multiple teams, ensuring timely updates about matches, and troubleshooting unexpected schedule changes required adaptability and quick decision-making. Overcoming these obstacles helped me develop my time management skills and reinforced the importance of effective teamwork and communication. These skills are not only crucial for event planning but also for various aspects of life.
LO6 – Engagement with issues of global significance
Sports tournaments like ISSO promote global engagement by bringing together students from different cultural backgrounds. This experience allowed me to witness firsthand how sports serve as a universal language, uniting individuals despite differences. By participating in the organization of this event, I contributed to fostering a spirit of camaraderie and international cooperation among young athletes, reinforcing the significance of global engagement in sports.
Personal Reflection Being an athlete myself, this tournament was the perfect opportunity for me to combine my passion for sports with my interest in event management. It allowed me to explore the intricacies of organizing a large-scale sports event while honing my leadership and interpersonal skills. The experience reinforced my appreciation for the hard work that goes into planning such tournaments and deepened my desire to engage in similar organizational roles in the future.
Conclusion Overall, the ISSO Football Tournament was an enriching experience that helped me grow as an individual. It strengthened my ability to manage time effectively, communicate efficiently, and adapt to new challenges. More importantly, it fueled my long-standing passion for sports while enabling me to develop essential life skills. I am grateful for this opportunity and look forward to furthering my involvement in sports management and organization in the future.
