Bal Mela

The Bal Mela event at our school was a vibrant celebration of creativity, collaboration, and community engagement. Public schools from across Surat came together for a few hours of fun-filled activities, with multiple stalls offering games, crafts, and interactive experiences. I had the opportunity to host a stall where I organized a game of musical chairs for the children. Watching their excitement and laughter as they played was incredibly rewarding. Beyond the fun, the event also allowed me to reflect on my personal growth, planning skills, and the broader impact of such initiatives.

LO1 – Identify Own Strengths and Develop Areas for Growth
Hosting the musical chairs stall at Bal Mela helped me recognize my strengths in communication and leadership. I enjoyed engaging with the children, explaining the rules, and ensuring everyone had a good time. However, I also realized that I need to work on my patience and adaptability. At times, managing a large group of energetic kids was challenging, and I had to think on my feet to keep the game running smoothly. This experience taught me the importance of staying calm under pressure and being flexible in unexpected situations.

LO3 – Initiate and Plan a CAS Experience
Organizing the musical chairs stall required careful planning and initiative. I had to think about the logistics, such as arranging chairs, selecting music, and setting up the space. I also had to anticipate potential challenges, like managing the crowd and ensuring fairness in the game. This experience helped me develop my organizational skills and taught me the value of preparation. It was rewarding to see my plans come to life and contribute to the success of the event.

LO6 – Engagement with Issues of Global Significance
Bal Mela was more than just a fun event; it was a platform for promoting inclusivity and equal opportunities for children from diverse backgrounds. By hosting a stall, I contributed to creating a space where children from public schools could enjoy themselves and feel valued. This aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education, which emphasizes the importance of inclusive and equitable learning opportunities. The event reminded me of the role we can all play in addressing global issues, even through small, local actions.

LO7 – Recognize and Consider the Ethics of Choices and Actions
Throughout the event, I was mindful of the ethical implications of my actions. For example, I made sure that every child had a fair chance to participate and that no one felt left out. I also considered the safety of the children, ensuring that the game was conducted in a safe and controlled environment. This experience reinforced the importance of making ethical choices, even in seemingly simple situations, and being considerate of others’ feelings and well-being.

Bal Mela was a memorable experience that allowed me to connect with children, develop new skills, and reflect on my personal growth. It was a reminder of the joy that comes from giving back to the community and the impact we can have through thoughtful actions. I am grateful for the opportunity to have been part of such a meaningful event and look forward to applying the lessons I learned in future endeavors.
