For the Garba Fest, I was part of the decor team, responsible for transforming the event space into a vibrant and festive environment. One of the main attractions that we decided to focus on was creating a large peacock sculpture made entirely of cups and paper. Initially, this seemed like a huge challenge—designing and assembling such a complex structure required both creativity and a lot of coordination. As someone who had little prior experience with large-scale decorations, this was a chance for me to learn and develop new skills.
LO2 – Demonstrate That Challenges Have Been Undertaken, Developing New Skills:
When I first got involved in the project, I had no idea how we were going to make the peacock come to life. We spent several brainstorming sessions discussing the design, colors, and materials. I had to quickly learn how to work with paper and cups in a way that allowed us to create intricate details while keeping the structure stable. There were moments when things didn’t go as planned—the cups didn’t stay glued, the paper didn’t fold correctly, and the peacock didn’t look as we envisioned. However, I took each setback as an opportunity to refine my skills in crafting and problem-solving. Through trial and error, I learned new techniques for working with paper and cups, and we eventually got the sculpture to a point where it looked exactly as we had imagined.
LO4 – Show Perseverance and Commitment in CAS Experience:
On the day of the event, there were several last-minute challenges that tested our commitment to the project. We had to place large pieces of cloth overhead to give the space a festive atmosphere. This was physically demanding, as the cloths were heavy, and they had to be placed and secured at just the right height and angles. Despite the exhaustion and the time pressure, I remained focused and persistent, working with my team to get everything in place.
LO5 – Demonstrate Skills and Benefits of Working Collaboratively:
This experience was an excellent opportunity to work collaboratively with a diverse team. Each person brought their unique skills and ideas to the table, and we learned how to effectively communicate and delegate tasks. For instance, while I focused on the peacock, others were responsible for other decorations, such as hanging paper decorations and glass bottles.
In conclusion, my experience with the Garba Fest decor team was an enriching one that allowed me to overcome challenges, develop new skills, and work collaboratively with others to achieve a common goal. I learned the importance of perseverance, creativity, and adaptability in problem-solving, as well as the value of teamwork in executing a large-scale project. The successful completion of the peacock sculpture and the overall decorations not only enhanced the festive atmosphere of the event but also gave me a deeper understanding of the effort that goes into creating something beautiful and meaningful as part of a team. This experience will always remind me of the power of collaboration and the rewards that come from hard work and dedication.
