The Grade 12 farewell was a special event to celebrate our seniors as they finished school and got ready for the next chapter of their lives. I was part of the team that helped make the farewell look amazing by creating decorations. The best part was that we had to follow specific instructions and themes decided by the core committee. This made the experience even more exciting and challenging! From designing invites to making centerpieces and backdrop decorations, I got to use my creativity while sticking to the guidelines. It was a lot of fun, and I learned so much about teamwork, hard work, and following directions.
LO1 – Identify Own Strengths and Develop Areas for Growth
Working on the decorations helped me realize that I’m good at coming up with creative ideas and paying attention to details. I loved making things by hand and seeing my ideas come to life, even while following the themes and instructions. But I also learned that I need to work on managing my time better. Sometimes, I had to finish things quickly or adjust my plans to fit the guidelines, which was a bit stressful. These challenges helped me become more flexible and think on my feet, which are skills I can use in the future.
LO3 – Initiate and Plan a CAS Experience
Planning the decorations wasn’t as easy as it sounds! We had to follow the themes and instructions given by the core committee, which meant we couldn’t just do whatever we wanted. I had to think about how to make my ideas fit the theme, choose the right colors, and make sure everything looked good together. This taught me how to set goals, make a plan, and stay organized while following rules. It felt great to see all the decorations in place on the day of the farewell and know that I helped make the event special for the seniors.
LO4 – Show Perseverance and Commitment in CAS Experience
One of the biggest challenges I faced was waking up 1 hour and 30 minutes early every day to go to school and work on the decorations. It was really hard to wake up so early, especially when I had homework and other responsibilities. On top of that, making the decorations was not easy—some of them were very complicated and took a lot of time and effort. There were moments when I felt tired and wanted to give up, but I reminded myself how important this event was for the seniors. I stayed committed and kept working hard, even when it was challenging. This experience taught me the value of perseverance and dedication. Seeing the final result and the smiles on the seniors’ faces made all the early mornings and hard work completely worth it!
LO5 – Demonstrate Skills and Benefits of Working Collaboratively
The best part of this experience was working with my friends. We had to follow the same instructions and themes, so we split up the tasks, shared ideas, and helped each other out. Some people were really good at drawing, while others were great at organizing. By working together, we got everything done faster and had fun doing it. This showed me how important teamwork is and how much you can achieve when everyone works together toward the same goal.
The Grade 12 farewell was a wonderful event, and I’m so glad I got to be part of it. Making decorations while following instructions and themes was a fun way to use my creativity, but it also taught me about planning, perseverance, and teamwork. I learned a lot about myself and how to work with others, and I’ll always remember this experience. It was a great way to celebrate our seniors and show them how much we care. I’m excited to use what I’ve learned in future projects and events!
