HDP PS – Activity

This cycle of the Holistic Development Program (HDP) was an opportunity for me to explore my personal sport, and I chose basketball because it is a skill I have consistently worked on and genuinely enjoy. Throughout the sessions and tournaments, I was able to reflect on my strengths, identify areas that needed improvement, and develop greater discipline as an athlete.

LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth:
Playing basketball as part of HDP allowed me to understand my strengths more clearly. I realised that my agility, ball-handling, and ability to read the game helped me contribute effectively during matches. At the same time, I identified areas that needed development—especially my shooting consistency and defensive footwork. With guidance from the coaches and through self-reflection after each practice, I set personal targets to work on these weaknesses, such as shooting drills and defensive movement exercises.

LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in a CAS experience:
Training regularly while balancing academics required consistent commitment. There were days when practice felt exhausting, especially leading up to tournaments, but showing up each time helped me build perseverance. I pushed myself to maintain discipline, attend every session, and go beyond my comfort zone. This commitment paid off during inter-school competitions, where I could see visible improvement in my confidence and gameplay.

LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively:
Basketball is fundamentally a team sport, and HDP reinforced how essential collaboration is. Working with my teammates helped me develop better communication, trust, and coordination on court. We learned to adapt to each other’s playing styles and support one another during high-pressure moments. The tournaments especially highlighted how collective effort leads to success—whether through effective passing, strategic defence, or simply encouraging teammates after mistakes.

Overall, choosing basketball for HDP allowed me to grow both personally and collaboratively. I strengthened existing skills, developed new ones, and learned the value of commitment and teamwork—experiences that align closely with my CAS goals and continue to influence my approach to sports and learning.
