Garba fest in school

Our school recently organized a Garba Fest, and what started as a simple cultural celebration turned into a meaningful CAS experience for me. The event included traditional Garba followed by a DJ party, and it allowed me to reflect on my strengths, areas for growth, and my engagement with a cultural activity that connects to a global issue: preserving and celebrating cultural identity.

LO1 – Identifying Strengths and Areas for Growth

Participating in Garba made me realize how comfortable I am with team-based and social activities. I enjoyed coordinating movements with others, keeping rhythm, and encouraging my friends who weren’t as confident. At the same time, I noticed that I need to improve my stamina and coordination for longer dance sessions. I also want to become more confident in taking initiative during large group events instead of waiting for others to lead.

LO2 – Challenges Undertaken & New Skills Developed

A major challenge for me was learning and remembering the Garba steps, especially the more advanced ones that require speed and accuracy. At first, I kept messing up the timing, but with help from teachers and watching others around me, I gradually improved. I also learned how to adapt to fast changes—from traditional Garba rhythms to the DJ music afterward. This helped me develop quick learning skills and flexibility in unfamiliar situations.

LO4 – Commitment & Perseverance

Even though I felt tired halfway through the event, I pushed myself to stay involved until the end. Garba requires continuous movement, and it tested my endurance. I stayed committed because I wanted to contribute to the energy of the event and support my classmates. My perseverance made the experience more rewarding, especially during the final DJ session where everyone came together to celebrate.

LO6 – Engagement with Global Significance

Garba is not just a dance; it’s an important part of Indian culture that is celebrated globally, especially during Navratri. By participating, I contributed to preserving and celebrating cultural heritage within an international school environment. Events like this help strengthen cultural understanding and appreciation among students from different backgrounds. It reminded me of how cultural traditions connect communities and create a sense of belonging.
