I chose community clean-up as a CAS service activity because I wanted to contribute to making the environment cleaner, safer, and more beautiful. The purpose was to reduce pollution, especially in areas near water bodies, and encourage others to take responsibility for keeping our surroundings clean
LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively:
This activity required teamwork, as cleaning large areas alone would not have been possible. I worked with a group of students and volunteers to collect waste, separate recyclables, and dispose of it responsibly. Collaborating with others helped us finish tasks efficiently and fostered a sense of unity and shared purpose. I also developed communication and coordination skills while learning to value everyone’s contributions to the group effort.
LO6 – Engagement with issues of global significance:
Pollution and waste management are global challenges that impact human health, marine life, and the planet. Participating in this clean-up made me more aware of how local actions contribute to solving global environmental issues. By reducing litter and plastic waste near water, I contributed in a small but meaningful way toward improving the health of ecosystems and promoting sustainability.
LO7 – Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions:
Through this experience, I learned the ethical importance of maintaining cleanliness and respecting nature. Every choice we make — whether to dispose of waste properly or ignore it — affects the environment and others around us. I realized that being environmentally responsible is not just about action but about setting a positive example and influencing others to make ethical decisions for the planet’s well-being.
Overall, this CAS experience helped me become more responsible, collaborative, and environmentally conscious. I developed essential life skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, and ethical decision making. Most importantly, I realized that even small steps can lead to significant change when people come together with a common goal. This experience has inspired me to continue engaging in sustainability initiatives and to encourage others to take part in protecting our environment.
