Farewell – Dance

What the experience was:
For this CAS experience, our group prepared two dance performances of around ten minutes each for the farewell ceremony of the outgoing senior batch. The farewell was a deeply emotional milestone for them, marking the end of their long journey in school, so we aimed to create a memorable and joyful moment. Our preparation involved intensive practice sessions where we learned choreography, synchronized movements, and refined transitions. We assessed one another’s strengths such as rhythm, flexibility, energy, or stage presence and adjusted the choreography to highlight these strengths. This not only improved the overall performance quality but also strengthened our teamwork. The process was physically demanding and required creativity, coordination, and patience, but it helped us build a strong sense of purpose and unity.

Connection to Sustainable Development Goal:
This experience aligns with SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, as dancing encouraged physical activity, creativity, and emotional expression. It also contributed to the well-being of the seniors by giving them a meaningful and joyful send-off, creating a positive and lasting memory.

Connection to Learning Outcomes:

  • LO2:This experience presented several challenges, especially when learning new choreography and ensuring perfect synchronization within a large group. Some of the steps were complex, required precise timing, or demanded stamina, which made the practice sessions both physically and mentally demanding. At times, it was difficult to adapt to the fast pace of the choreography or remember long sequences, but I pushed myself to stay consistent. The need to coordinate with others added an additional layer of challenge, as even a small mistake could affect the entire performance. By persisting through these difficulties, I developed perseverance, adaptability, and greater confidence in learning new artistic skills.
  • LO4: Preparing for the farewell performances required significant dedication, especially with the limited time available. I demonstrated commitment by attending every practice session, even when they extended after school hours or felt physically exhausting. Balancing academics with long rehearsals required careful time management, but I remained consistent because I wanted our seniors to have a meaningful farewell. I also spent time outside scheduled practices revising steps and improving my coordination so that I would not fall behind. This sustained effort taught me the value of perseverance and discipline, and it showed me that maintaining commitment directly impacts the success of a collective goal.
  • LO5: Collaboration was essential throughout this experience, as the success of the performances depended on our ability to function as a unified group. We communicated openly, gave each other constructive feedback, and supported those who struggled with certain steps. Identifying each person’s strengths helped us divide roles effectively for instance, placing stronger dancers at focal points or adjusting formations to create balance. Working through disagreements or moments of stress strengthened our teamwork and trust. I learned how to listen actively, compromise when needed, and encourage others. Ultimately, our collaborative effort created a polished performance that genuinely honoured our seniors.
