Night Tournament (Activity)

LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
I realized that one of my key strengths was maintaining composure under pressure, especially during close moments in the game. My defensive positioning and communication also helped the team stay organized. However, I identified areas for growth, such as improving my stamina for late-game situations and enhancing my shooting consistency. By analyzing my performance, I recognized how much I rely on defense as my strongest point, but also that I need to balance this with scoring contributions. This made me reflect on how, in basketball and in life, growth often comes from identifying weaknesses and steadily working on them, turning them into future strengths.

LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
Playing at night added a unique challenge, as the environment and visibility felt different from regular practice. Adapting to this condition required focus and resilience. I also developed new skills in quick decision-making under unfamiliar conditions, which pushed me out of my comfort zone. Additionally, I had to manage my energy more carefully because the games went late into the night, which was not something I was used to. Learning to adapt to a different schedule taught me flexibility, while the competitive intensity helped me sharpen my awareness on court. These challenges allowed me to develop not only basketball skills but also mental endurance.

LO3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
The tournament required planning, from registering the team to coordinating practice sessions. I contributed by helping organize warm-ups and setting short-term goals for the matches. This experience showed me the importance of preparation and clear roles before an event. I also learned how to balance team responsibilities with my personal role as a player, making sure that planning did not interfere with my ability to perform. Being part of this organization gave me a sense of responsibility and taught me the importance of small details, like timing our warm-ups properly and ensuring we had enough breaks. It made me realize that effective planning makes the actual performance much smoother.

LO4: Show commitment to, and perseverance in, CAS experience
Throughout the tournament, I stayed fully committed to the team, giving my best effort in every game despite fatigue. Even when we faced stronger opponents, I remained motivated and pushed myself until the final whistle. There were moments when I felt tired or slightly discouraged after mistakes, but I kept reminding myself of my responsibility to the team. Persevering through exhaustion gave me a sense of pride and showed me that resilience is just as important as skill. This experience also connected to my overall CAS journey because it reminded me that commitment is about consistently showing up, no matter how tough the situation is.

LO5: Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
Teamwork was central to our performance. By trusting each other’s abilities and communicating constantly on court, we were able to strategize effectively. This reinforced the idea that success in basketball depends less on individual talent and more on collaboration. I noticed how different players contributed in unique ways—some were better at shooting, others at rebounding—and we respected those roles. Working collaboratively also built trust and strengthened our friendships, which carried over off the court as well. This experience made me realize that collaboration not only makes the team stronger but also makes the game more enjoyable, as it creates a shared sense of achievement.

LO7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actionsFair play was crucial in the tournament. I was conscious of avoiding unnecessary fouls, respecting referees’ decisions, and showing sportsmanship to opponents. These choices not only upheld the spirit of the game but also set an example of ethical behavior in competitive sports. There were moments when frustration could have led to negative actions, but I made sure to channel my energy constructively. I also recognized that my behavior influences how others—especially younger players—see the game, so setting a good example mattered. This experience helped me understand that ethics in sports is not just about following rules but about respecting others and valuing integrity above winning.

Reflection:
The night tournament strengthened my confidence, tested my resilience, and reminded me of the values of teamwork and respect. It was not just about winning, but about learning and growing both as a player and as a person. I left the tournament with not only improved skills but also a stronger sense of discipline and sportsmanship, which I can apply both on and off the court.
