FSMUN 11.0 (Creativity)

Participating in FSMUN 11.0 was my very first experience in a Model United Nations, and being part of the IPL committee gave me a unique perspective on debating and diplomacy in a structured setting. Although I was nervous initially, this CAS experience taught me valuable lessons about teamwork, global awareness, and the importance of ethical decision-making in debate.

LO5: Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
In the IPL committee, collaboration was essential. While each delegate represented different franchises, the goal was to negotiate, form alliances, and build consensus around issues such as player transfers, sponsorships, and governance. Working with others required patience, active listening, and compromise—especially when opinions conflicted. I realized that effective collaboration is not about dominating the discussion, but about contributing meaningfully and helping create solutions that satisfy multiple perspectives. This not only improved my communication skills but also gave me confidence to engage more openly in group discussions.

LO6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
Even though our committee was based on cricket and the IPL, the debates reflected larger global themes such as commercialization of sports, fairness in competition, and the responsibilities of sports organizations in society. It became clear to me that sports are not just entertainment—they are linked to economics, culture, and ethics worldwide. I began to see how decisions in one sector can have ripple effects globally, much like in real-world UN debates. This broadened my perspective and helped me connect the role of sports to wider international issues such as equity, representation, and globalization.

LO7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
Ethics played a key role in my MUN experience. As a delegate, I had to carefully consider how to argue for my franchise’s interests without ignoring fairness or engaging in biased claims. I learned that words and actions in debate carry responsibility, especially when representing institutions or ideas in front of peers. Upholding respect for other delegates, avoiding misinformation, and keeping the debate constructive were all ethical choices that shaped the quality of discussion. This experience taught me that ethics in debate are as important as content, since they determine how inclusive and respectful the space becomes.

Reflection
FSMUN 11.0 was a challenging but rewarding CAS experience. It gave me confidence in public speaking, helped me practice collaboration under pressure, and opened my eyes to how even sports debates connect to broader global and ethical concerns. As my first MUN, it inspired me to participate in more such events and continue developing as both a communicator and a global thinker.
