Wetland Cleanup Drive- Service

Every alternate Sunday, I participate in a wetland cleanup drive aimed at restoring and preserving our local ecosystem. Wetlands are essential for biodiversity, water purification, and climate regulation, yet they are often polluted with plastic waste, industrial runoff, and other contaminants. Through this initiative, I have not only contributed to environmental conservation but also developed a deeper understanding of my role in addressing global challenges.

LO4: Perseverance and Commitment in CAS Experience
Consistency is key when working towards environmental sustainability. Engaging in this cleanup drive every two weeks has required dedication and persistence as I had to wake up early everytime. There have been days when the sheer amount of waste seemed overwhelming, but pushing through these challenges has reinforced my resilience. Over time, I have realized that small, sustained efforts lead to meaningful change. My commitment to this initiative has strengthened my ability to stay dedicated to a cause despite difficulties.

LO6: Engagement with Issues of Global Significance
Pollution, habitat destruction, and climate change are global crises, and wetlands play a crucial role in mitigating their effects. By actively participating in cleanup efforts, I have engaged with a critical environmental issue that affects ecosystems worldwide. Seeing firsthand how plastic waste endangers wildlife has reinforced my awareness of the impact of human activities on nature. This experience has also encouraged me to advocate for sustainable practices beyond the cleanup, such as reducing single-use plastics and spreading awareness about wetland conservation.

LO7: Recognizing and Considering the Ethics of Choices and Actions
Cleaning up a wetland is not just about removing waste, it is also about understanding the ethical responsibility we have towards the environment. I have become more mindful of how my daily choices, such as consuming plastic products, contribute to pollution. Additionally, working alongside a team has highlighted the importance of collective action and ethical decision-making. The cleanup drive has made me more conscious of my role in environmental stewardship, and I now actively consider the long-term consequences of my actions on nature and future generations.
