One of the most fulfilling experiences in my CAS journey has been the Dog Club. This initiative is not just about spending time with dogs ,it’s about taking responsibility for their well-being and advocating for animal rights. Through the Dog Club, I participated in organized events such as feeding drives, awareness campaigns, and volunteer days at shelters. These activities required strong communication and collaboration skills, as they often involved working in teams and coordinating tasks.
LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
During my time in the Dog Club, I experienced firsthand the importance of teamwork. Collaborating with others during events like feeding drives or awareness campaigns allowed us to make a much greater impact than we could have individually. This experience helped me improve my communication and organizational skills, while also teaching me how to rely on the strengths and abilities of others to achieve common goals. It reinforced the idea that change happens more effectively when people come together with a shared purpose.
LO7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
Being part of the Dog Club deepened my understanding of the ethical responsibilities we have toward animals. Seeing the reality of how many dogs are abandoned, mistreated, or neglected made me reflect on how our actions or inactions impact innocent lives. This awareness has shaped my values and decisions, making me more conscious about promoting kindness, compassion, and ethical behavior when it comes to the treatment of animals.
This experience aligns strongly with SDG 15, Life on Land. By advocating for animal rights, educating the community about responsible pet ownership, and supporting shelter and rescue initiatives, we contribute to a more sustainable and humane society. Our efforts aim to reduce the stray population, prevent animal abandonment, and ensure a safer, more compassionate environment for both animals and people.
