What the experience was:
For this CAS experience, I travelled with my school team to Jaipur to compete in the ISSO tournament, which brought together several strong teams from different regions. The competition level was significantly higher than our regular matches, making the environment both intense and motivating. Each match posed new challenges ranging from unfamiliar playing conditions to opponents with different skill sets and strategies. Throughout the tournament, I strengthened my technical skills such as ball control, positioning, and tactical awareness. I also grew personally by learning to manage pressure, maintain focus, and display sportsmanship even in challenging moments.
Connection to Sustainable Development Goal:
This experience aligns with SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, as participation in sports tournaments promotes physical fitness, mental well-being, and the values of discipline and collaboration, all of which contribute to a healthier lifestyle.
Connection to Learning Outcomes:
- LO1: The ISSO tournament helped me clearly identify both my strengths and weaknesses as a football player. I realised that I was strong in strategic thinking, reading the game, and maintaining endurance throughout long and intense matches. These strengths allowed me to contribute effectively, especially when adapting to changing game situations. However, the high-pressure environment also revealed areas needing improvement particularly staying composed during crucial moments and making quick decisions under stress. Playing against skilled opponents helped me see where I needed further development. This self-awareness allowed me to set targeted goals for future training and understand my role within the team more deeply.
- LO2: Every match during the tournament presented unique and demanding challenges. We faced teams with different playing styles, fast-paced attacks, and unpredictable strategies, requiring constant adaptation and quick thinking. The unfamiliar climate and playing conditions in Jaipur added another layer of difficulty, pushing me physically and mentally. I had to learn how to stay focused, control my nerves, and make effective decisions even when fatigued. These challenges taught me perseverance and improved my problem-solving skills on the field. Instead of feeling overwhelmed, I chose to embrace the competitive atmosphere, which helped me grow as a player and become more confident in high-pressure scenarios.
- LO5: Teamwork played a central role in this tournament, and our performance depended on how well we communicated, trusted, and supported each other. We discussed strategies before each match, shared feedback, and encouraged one another during difficult moments. Strong coordination whether through passing sequences, defensive organisation, or off-ball movement was essential to keep the team functioning effectively. I learned to listen actively to my teammates, adjust my playstyle when needed, and rely on others’ strengths. This collaboration created a sense of unity and helped us navigate the intense competition together. The experience reinforced the importance of collective effort over individual performance in achieving success.
