overview:
The project Donate4Needy was a project directed at assisting the needy communities through food insecurity and unavailability of the basic learning facilities. The program involved four key components, which were food kit donation, enrichment activities, establishing a food stall to fundraise, and a two-week social media awareness programme on food waste, hunger, and education. This project enabled me to find out about my strengths, cooperate with other people and feel responsible towards social problems. the project also include collaboration with other NGOs
Learning Outcome 1: Recognize personal strengths and work on the improvement areas.
Through this project, I was able to understand that I possess good organizational and communication skills. I was able to coordinate the process with my peers, local NGOs, and the school to accomplish the donation drive. Nevertheless, I also found the concepts of time management and task delegation as the aspects that I need to work on. First, I attempted to manage several issues myself, but I realized that I should trust my teammates and assign them tasks, which will enhance efficiency.
Learning Outcome 2: Prove that challenges were taken, and they acquired new skills in the process.
It was not easy to organize a project where it touched on logistics, food handling and economic interaction with the community. I had challenges with organizing volunteers, making sure that the food packages were good and ensuring that the hygiene was followed. These experiences helped me to acquire new skills in teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving. This also taught me how to be sensitive and respectful when interacting with members of the community and this has enhanced my interpersonal and empathy abilities.
Learning Outcome 3: Be able to show how one can start and plan a CAS experience.
The planning and coordination in this project was very much needed. I was also engaged in designing the plan from the stage of recognizing the issue of hunger and educational inequality up to the process of establishing the particular targets and arranging every event. I assisted in the preparation of the schedule of every activity, such as food giving and education of people, and the awareness program. I also liaised with school staff and peers to have resources and permission in place. This experience taught me that it is necessary to plan and work with a team to achieve significant results.
Learning Outcome 4: Be committed and persistent in CAS experiences.
I was present during all project activities and was able to stick with the project throughout the project duration. Participation was not as high as it could have been and there were times that I felt like giving up or encountering logistical issues but I remained committed to the cause. I also remained involved even after the major events in the process of the awareness campaign and donation control. This experience showed me the significance of persistence and how the regular work can lead to significant outcomes.
Learning Outcome 5: Deem and identify the advantages of being a team player.
Donate4Needy was a student led initiative, which entailed the joining of students, teachers and the community partners. Collaboration also gave us an opportunity to share ideas, allocate work, and encourage each other. I studied to hear other people and listen to their points of view, to solve minor conflicts and to appreciate teamwork. Our teamwork made the difference between the success of the food stall and donation drive as it demonstrated to me how collaboration enhances the effect of any project.
Learning Outcome 6: Show the interest in the problems of international importance.
Global food waste, hunger and poverty are conditions that plague millions of people in the world. This project allowed me to make contributions to the solution of these issues locally. The food donation and awareness campaign served to sensitize my peers with regard to how international problems such as hunger can begin with small problems locally. This experience helped me to be more aware of how the individual actions can be linked with global change.
Learning Outcome 7: Learn to identify and take into account the ethics of decision-making and actions.
The ethical aspect was a crucial factor in this project. We also made sure that any donations we made were done with respect to the recipients and therefore their dignity was not violated. We also ensured that the money in the food stall was managed and spent openly to acquire stationery to the needy students. I came to know that an ethical responsibility is not only doing good, but the manner in which we do this in terms of honesty, respect and fairness.
