I took part in the ISSO (International Schools Sports Organisation) Basketball Tournament, where international schools from all over the country compete in intense athletic challenges. This event not only offers students the opportunity to play at a competitive level, but also gives us the chance to connect with peers from various schools and institutions, creating a unique and enriching experience.
Learning Outcome 1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth Screen reader support enabled
Participating in the ISSO Basketball Tournament helped me recognize both my strengths and areas where I can improve. Through this high-level competition, I realized that my teamwork, communication, and game awareness were strong assets on the court. However, I also identified areas for growth, such as improving my stamina and decision-making under pressure. This experience motivated me to work on these aspects through regular practice and personal fitness training. It was a valuable opportunity for self-reflection and growth, both as an athlete and as a team player.
Learning Outcome 2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
Participating in the ISSO (International Schools Sports Organisation) Basketball Tournament was both a physically and mentally demanding experience. Competing against skilled teams from international schools across the country pushed me out of my comfort zone and required a high level of focus, discipline, and teamwork. Throughout the tournament, I faced several challenges—such as adapting to different play styles, managing pressure in high-stakes matches, and maintaining energy and motivation over multiple days of competition.
These experiences allowed me to strengthen not only my technical skills in basketball but also important personal qualities such as resilience, strategic thinking, and communication. I learned to stay composed during difficult moments and support my teammates effectively, which contributed to both my personal growth and our team’s overall performance. This tournament played a key role in developing my confidence and perseverance, and it motivated me to continue improving in both sports and leadership.
Learning Outcome 3 – Initiate and plan a CAS experience.
Participating in the ISSO (International Schools Sports Organisation) Basketball Tournament required thorough planning and initiative. In the lead-up to the event, I committed to regular training sessions, worked closely with my teammates to develop strategies, and balanced my academic responsibilities alongside sports preparation. Planning also included coordinating with coaches, managing travel schedules, and mentally preparing for high-level competition. This experience helped me develop essential organizational and time management skills, while also emphasizing the importance of commitment and teamwork in achieving a common goal.
Learning Outcome 4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience.
Participating in the ISSO (International Schools Sports Organisation) Basketball Tournament was a true test of my perseverance and commitment. From the moment our team began training, I dedicated myself to attending every practice session, even when it meant sacrificing personal time or managing other academic responsibilities. There were days when the training was exhausting, and progress felt slow, but I continued to push through, reminding myself of the goals we had set as a team.
One of the biggest challenges came during the tournament itself, where we faced tough opponents who tested our skills and resilience. During one of the matches, we were trailing behind, and morale was low. However, instead of giving up, I motivated my teammates to keep fighting and focused on maintaining a strong defensive game. We eventually closed the gap, and although we didn’t win that particular match, the effort we put in until the final whistle was a reflection of our collective commitment.
Learning Outcome 5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively.
Participating in the ISSO Basketball Tournament provided me with a valuable experience to develop and showcase my collaborative skills. Being part of a team meant that every success on the court was the result of coordinated effort, communication, and mutual support. From planning strategies during practice to executing plays in high-pressure situations, collaboration was at the heart of everything we did.
We learned to trust one another, adapt to each other’s playing styles, and resolve conflicts in a constructive way. Working as a team helped us stay motivated, especially when facing strong opponents. Each player had a role, and understanding how our individual contributions fit into the bigger picture was essential for our success.
