On the 8th of February, Fountainhead School organized the annual Bal Mela. Bal Mela is the biggest events of the year where our school invites children from various SMC schools to enjoy different activities in sports, arts, music & dance. Every year hundreds of children attend this event. My role in the event was to photograph the event. Seeing big smiles on all of the kid’s faces really made me appreciate everything that I had.
Learning outcome 1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth (Bal Mela)
Participating in Bal Mela helped me recognize both my strengths and the areas I can improve. I noticed that I am confident when interacting with younger students and managing small groups, which made my role more effective and enjoyable. However, I also realized I need to work on staying organized and planning ahead, especially when managing multiple tasks at once. This experience helped me reflect on how I can grow by improving my time management and preparation skills for future events.
Learning Outcome 2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
Participating in Bal Mela was a unique and rewarding experience that pushed me to grow in several ways. As part of the organizing team, I was involved in planning, setting up, and managing a stall designed for younger children. This role came with its own set of challenges, especially when it came to keeping the children engaged, managing large groups, and solving unexpected issues on the spot.
One of the main challenges I faced was communicating with children of different age groups in a way that was both fun and clear. I had to quickly adapt my tone, simplify instructions, and stay energetic throughout the day. This helped me improve my communication and interpersonal skills, especially when handling children who were either too shy or overly excited.
Learning Outcome 3 – Initiate and plan a CAS experience (Bal Mela)
As part of the Bal Mela event, I took the initiative to contribute to the planning and execution of an engaging and meaningful experience for the children. From the initial brainstorming sessions to organizing logistics and assigning responsibilities, I was actively involved in coordinating activities, gathering necessary materials, and collaborating with peers to ensure a smooth flow of the event. The planning process helped me develop my organizational and leadership skills, while also requiring me to manage time effectively and work within a team. Through this, I learned the importance of preparation, communication, and flexibility in successfully executing a CAS experience that aims to bring joy and learning to others.
LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience (Bal Mela)
Participating in Bal Mela required consistent effort and dedication, both during the preparation phase and on the day of the event. From planning activities and organizing materials to coordinating with team members and ensuring everything ran smoothly, I had to stay committed to my responsibilities throughout. There were challenges along the way—tight schedules, last-minute changes, and managing young children—but I remained focused and motivated to deliver a fun and engaging experience. My perseverance played a key role in contributing to the success of the event, and it taught me the value of staying consistent and seeing a project through from start to finish.
Leaning Outcome 5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively (Bal Mela)
Being a part of Bal Mela was a truly collaborative experience. From the initial planning stages to the final execution of the event, teamwork was at the core of everything we did. I was part of a group responsible for setting up and running a stall, and this involved coordinating ideas, dividing tasks, and making decisions together. We had to consider each other’s strengths and interests to assign roles effectively, which helped everything run more smoothly on the day of the event.
There were moments of stress, especially during the setup and when we faced unexpected challenges like limited materials or last-minute changes. However, working in a team made it easier to handle those situations. We supported each other, stayed positive, and found creative solutions together. For example, when we ran out of supplies, one of my teammates quickly coordinated with another stall to borrow extras, showing how collaboration across groups was just as important.
