Cross country

Cross-country running was one of the toughest physical activities I’ve ever taken part in, but it helped me strengthen both my endurance and mental focus. Unlike running on a track, cross-country meant dealing with unpredictable surfaces like mud, slopes, and uneven roads. At times it was exhausting and frustrating, but each race taught me more about my limits and pushed me to keep improving. Over the course of three races, I learned to stay disciplined, maintain focus, and set personal goals that I worked toward through consistent effort.

LO1: Identifying Strengths and Areas for Growth
A major strength I discovered was my stamina I was able to hold a steady pace during long runs, which kept me consistent throughout the races. However, I also realized that my breathing technique and running form needed improvement, especially on uneven terrain where I would tire more quickly. This made me focus on stride control, posture, and more efficient breathing. With practice and guidance, these adjustments gradually made me a stronger and more efficient runner.

LO2: Taking on Challenges and Developing New Skills
Running in unfamiliar and rough conditions was a real challenge. Humid weather, muddy ground, and steep paths tested both my physical and mental strength. There were moments I felt like stopping, but pushing through helped me build resilience. I also learned new training methods, such as interval runs, which improved my speed and energy management. Overcoming these obstacles wasn’t easy, but it helped me develop new skills and gain confidence in handling long-distance running.

LO4: Commitment and Perseverance
Cross-country required regular training after school, stretching, and balancing my schedule with academics. The second race was especially tough, as I struggled with motivation and fatigue. Still, sticking to the routine and completing all three races paid off. My pace improved, and I recovered faster after each run. This experience reminded me that progress takes consistency it doesn’t come overnight but through steady effort over time.

LO5: Collaboration and Team Spirit
Although cross country is largely an individual sport, the training felt like a team journey. Running alongside others gave me motivation we paced each other, exchanged feedback, and supported one another during tough stretches. Even in the races, small words of encouragement helped us push through. This sense of teamwork made the experience more enjoyable and showed me how much shared motivation can boost performance.

Overall, cross country improved my physical fitness, helped me manage stress, and taught me the value of consistency all aligning with SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being. It wasn’t just about running races, but about developing good habits, facing challenges head-on, and appreciating the importance of teamwork and steady progress.
