To celebrate and honor the graduating Grade 12 students, we organized a memorable farewell event. I was part of the dance committee and participated in two group routines, each lasting around ten minutes. In the weeks leading up to the event, we practiced regularly, working together to perfect every move and create an enjoyable performance. On the day of the farewell, I also assisted with the event decorations, helping set up a festive and elegant space. The entire experience required collaboration, discipline, and dedication, and turned out to be both exciting and rewarding.
LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Being involved in the farewell dance helped me discover my strength in quickly learning choreography and performing with confidence in front of a large audience. I realized that I have a good sense of rhythm and coordination, which helped me stay in sync with the group. However, I also became aware of areas I needed to improve — particularly when it came to mastering fast and complex steps. It took extra effort for me to refine these moves and build the stamina to perform long routines without losing energy or precision. This experience helped me understand both my capabilities and areas I can continue to develop.
LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
Performing on stage in front of a large audience was a daunting challenge, but I chose to face it head-on. Learning and memorizing two dance routines required focus, patience, and perseverance. One of the most difficult parts was maintaining a consistent practice schedule, which meant waking up early and attending rehearsals before the school day started. Balancing this with academic responsibilities was not easy—I had to manage my time efficiently and catch up on lessons or assignments I missed during practice. Through this, I developed better time management skills and learned how to juggle multiple responsibilities without compromising either.
LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience
Preparing for the dance performance took weeks of consistent effort and dedication. Our team rehearsed almost every day, often in the early mornings before classes began. Despite the long hours and physical fatigue, I remained committed and showed up for each practice session. There were days when I felt exhausted or frustrated with my progress, but I reminded myself of our goal and pushed through. My commitment to the team and the event allowed me to improve steadily and give my best on the day of the performance.
LO5 – Demonstrate skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
The farewell dance was a group performance that required strong coordination and cooperation. We had to ensure that our movements were synchronized and our formations were aligned. Throughout rehearsals, we encouraged and supported each other, helping one another learn difficult steps and stay motivated. The experience highlighted how essential teamwork is in achieving a shared goal. Everyone’s contributions mattered, and by working together, we delivered a successful performance that the Grade 12 students thoroughly enjoyed. The appreciation and smiles on their faces made all our hard work worthwhile.
Participating in the farewell event allowed me to develop both as a performer and a teammate. It gave me the opportunity to challenge myself, grow through practice, and contribute to creating a joyful memory for the graduating batch. Looking back, I am proud of the dedication we all put in and the fun we had along the way.
