CAS Project: Pi Day Celebration – Role as Resource Manager

Introduction

For my CAS project, I helped organize the school’s Pi Day Celebration by assuming the role of Resource Manager. My role was to make sure that the materials, logistics, and resources required for the event were well planned and allocated with efficiency. The project had the goal of honoring mathematics in an entertaining manner through interactive events, contests, and innovative presentations. It was a chance not only to make learning math fun for the students but also to acquire crucial organizational, cooperative, and leadership skills.

LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

Resource management for the event helped me understand my organizational planning and time management skills as a strength. I was able to have clear records of materials needed and distribute them efficiently among activities. I also discovered an area of improvement in planning for last-minute needs, as a couple of resources were missed at first. This experience showed me the value of foresight and flexibility, learning to improve planning for upcoming projects.

LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills.

The role involved challenges like dealing with limited materials while making sure that all teams were sufficiently equipped. On some occasions, I found myself improvising and substituting materials in a hurry without affecting the operations. Such situations improved my problem-solving skills and ability to make quick decisions. Through these challenges, I learned to stay composed under stress, a skill that is indispensable in both academic and real-life situations.

LO3: Planning and Initiating a CAS Experience

I played an active role in planning as Resource Manager and was constantly in communication with activity leads and teachers. We started planning the event one month prior on 19 Feb. I assisted in the event plan by having checklists prepared, developing a resource plan schedule, and making sure materials were acquired in a timely manner. This proactive approach provided me with hands-on experience of initiating and organizing a project as well as keeping in line with the overall goals of the celebration.

LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience

Commitment was essential, as managing resources entailed duties prior to, during, and after the event. From involvement in planning sessions to overseeing equipment all day, I always committed my time and effort. Even when there were unexpected problems, such as stationery shortages, I persisted to discover feasible solutions. This commitment kept the event going smoothly and confirmed the importance of reliability in teamwork.

LO5: Demonstrate skills and benefits of working Collaboratively

Team effort was crucial to the success of the celebration. In my role as Resource Manager, I collaborated with other student leaders and volunteers to distribute resources equitably and efficiently. Effective collaboration necessitated effective communication and trust, and I learned to delegate responsibilities and assist others when necessary. This enhanced my interpersonal relationships and demonstrated to me the advantage of combining strengths toward a common purpose.

LO7: Recognizing and considering the ethics of choices and actions

As Resource Manager, I had to make ethical choices in distributing resources fairly among activities, even when supplies were limited. Ensuring that no group was disadvantaged required thoughtful decision-making and transparency. This responsibility emphasized the importance of fairness, accountability, and ethical leadership in project management.

Conclusion

As a whole, my work as the Resource Manager of the Pi Day Celebration was an enriching CAS project that built my leadership, organizational, and collaboration skills while addressing wider questions of learning and justice. The experience solidified my Principled learner profile aspect, since I always conducted myself with integrity, justice, and responsibility in handling resources and assisting the team. This project showed that even at a school level, it is possible to cultivate global awareness, collaboration, and ethical reasoning.
