fresher’s party – creativity

The was an event which was organised to welcome the batch of 2027 to IBDP year one which was known as the freshers party. I volunteered as part of the organising team for the Freshers’ Party to welcome the IBDP Year One students of the batch of 2027. The event aimed to make the new students feel excited about their IBDP years. We planned many engaging and interesting activities including dance performances, interactive games, and ice-breaking sessions. As part of the team, I contributed to the decoration and planning of the event which required collaboration, communication, and time-management skills.

LO 1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

During the event, I identified I was good at communicating with the team members and planning. I suggested to my team mates and other volunteers to divide the work so that the work is completed faster and efficiently. One of my tasks was to create decoration props, coloring, painting, etc. For all those, I asked other team members to work on different things so that we complete the work faster. Because of this task, I developed time-management skills as me and other team members decided a time limit for each work so that we complete the work on time and start with decorating the venue.

LO 3 – Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

In the beginning of the preparation, our team discussed the theme and how we should decorate the venue. My initiative was to divide the tasks amongst the team in order to decorate different props efficiently. Initiating the tasks was difficult because I was assigned to pain and cut the drawings. I had no practice for those tasks and it was very difficult for me to cut the drawings properly, but I managed to learn it from my team members at last and completed the task. This also helped me achieve cooperation skills as I cooperated with my team members and divided all the tasks to complete everything before time.

LO 4 – Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

Commitment for this task was necessary as I had no practice and skills for the assigned role which was painting or cutting. Hence, commitment was necessary in order to learn those skills first and then apply those skills to prepare the final props for the event decoration. My responsibility was also to stick decorative materials on the venue, which required commitment. It was very time-consuming and tiring, as there were fewer members for the task and many decorative materials. Working collaboratively with the team was important as it helped us complete the work faster and more efficiently. A team can provide different perspectives and opinions which can help in making the event better. In this event, the team played a major role as it was not possible to do it individually. We divided the workload, which helped us complete all the tasks faster. The team also helped me learn different skills that will be useful in the future.

To conclude, this event helped me and taught me many different skills which will help me in the future. I learned different skills such as communication, team work, time management, etc. While preparing for the event, I also understood the importance of a team and why a team can be better than doing anything individually. I faced some challenges and difficulties in the preparation of the event such as workload, less practice for the assigned task, etc. But all these challenges helped me gain experience, from which I can prepare myself for the future challenges.
