PickleBall Tournament : Play2BeatCancer

Experience Description
I participated in a pickleball tournament organized by Play2BeatCancer, an NGO that uses sports to raise awareness and funds for cancer. The tournament was both physically demanding and socially meaningful, as it combined the excitement of competition with the opportunity to support a global issue. Through this experience, I was able to challenge myself athletically while also contributing to a cause that impacts millions worldwide.

Learning Outcomes

LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
This experience helped me reflect on my strengths as a player, such as agility, focus, and determination under pressure. At the same time, it showed me areas where I can improve, such as shot precision, consistency, and mental endurance during long matches. Recognizing both my strengths and weaknesses gave me a clearer picture of how I can develop as both an athlete and a team player.

LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
The competitive nature of the tournament presented me with challenges, especially when facing opponents who were more skilled or experienced. Adapting to different playing styles forced me to think strategically and improve my game on the spot. This experience taught me resilience and helped me develop new techniques and decision-making skills that I can carry forward into future matches.

LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
Although pickleball is often an individual sport, playing doubles matches emphasized the importance of teamwork and communication. I had to coordinate with my partner, share strategies, and support each other through wins and losses. This collaboration not only improved our performance but also highlighted how trust and cooperation make challenges more enjoyable and achievable.

LO6 – Engagement with issues of global significance
The tournament’s larger purpose — raising awareness and support for cancer patients — gave my participation a deeper meaning. It reminded me that sports can be more than just competition; they can be a powerful platform to unite people for a global cause. Being part of an event that linked physical activity with health awareness made me reflect on the role of community engagement in addressing worldwide challenges.

Conclusion
Overall, this CAS experience was more than just a sports tournament. It was an opportunity to grow personally, build new skills, and contribute to a global issue in a meaningful way. I left the event not only as a stronger pickleball player but also as a more conscious and reflective individual who understands the power of combining passion with purpose.
