Health check up camp for labours- Service

Introduction:
The health check-up camp for factory laborers, organized by the Innerwheel Club of Surat Seaface, aimed to provide essential medical services to underprivileged workers who have limited access to healthcare. Many of these factory workers are at high risk of various health issues due to long working hours and challenging conditions. The camp offered screenings for blood sugar, hypertension, skin conditions, and eye health, ensuring that the participants received early detection and guidance for their well-being. As a volunteer, I assisted the laborers in navigating the different sections, supported the doctors, helped with registration, and coordinated the smooth flow of the camp, contributing to its overall success and positive impact on the community.

LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills.
During the health check-up camp, I faced the challenge of encouraging the factory workers to visit all the medical stations, as many were initially hesitant or fearful of receiving a diagnosis. Ensuring that every participant went through the necessary screenings for blood sugar, hypertension, skin, and eye check-ups required patience, clear communication, and persuasive skills. By guiding the workers, addressing their concerns, and supporting them through each step, I developed better interpersonal skills, empathy, and confidence in handling challenging situations, while also contributing to the smooth running of the camp and the well-being of the participants.

LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience.
During the health check-up camp organized by the Innerwheel Club, I demonstrated perseverance and commitment by being actively involved throughout the entire event, assisting the laborers from start to finish. Despite challenges such as guiding hesitant participants, coordinating multiple stations, and managing registrations and refreshments, I stayed focused and dedicated to ensuring that every worker received proper care. My consistent effort and engagement throughout the day helped the camp run smoothly and ensured that all participants benefited from the services provided.

LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively.
During the health check-up camp, I worked closely with other volunteers and the medical team to ensure the smooth flow of the event. We divided responsibilities, with some managing registration, others guiding workers through the check-up stations, and others assisting with refreshments. By collaborating effectively, sharing tasks, and supporting each other, we were able to overcome challenges such as hesitant participants and multiple simultaneous activities. This experience strengthened my teamwork and communication skills and highlighted how collaboration allows large-scale events to run efficiently and successfully.

LO6 – Engagement with issues of global significance.
Through volunteering at the health check-up camp, I engaged with the global issue of health and well-being (SDG 3). Many factory workers, especially those from underprivileged backgrounds, are at high risk of chronic diseases due to long working hours and limited access to medical care. By assisting in screenings for blood sugar, hypertension, skin conditions, and eye health, I contributed to promoting early detection, preventive care, and overall well-being for these workers. This experience highlighted the importance of equitable access to healthcare and how local initiatives can address broader global health challenges.

LO7 – Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions.
During the health check-up camp, I had to consider the ethical responsibility of treating all participants fairly and respectfully, regardless of their background. It was important to ensure that every worker felt comfortable and informed before undergoing medical screenings, respecting their privacy and choices. I also had to make ethical decisions in guiding hesitant participants to complete all necessary check-ups without forcing them, balancing encouragement with respect for their autonomy. This experience helped me understand the importance of ethical awareness, empathy, and responsibility when supporting others in sensitive situations.

Conclusion:
Volunteering at the health check-up camp organized by the Innerwheel Club was a highly rewarding and eye-opening experience. It allowed me to develop important skills such as communication, teamwork, empathy, and patience while facing challenges like guiding hesitant participants and managing multiple tasks simultaneously. I gained a deeper understanding of the health risks faced by underprivileged factory workers and the importance of providing equitable access to healthcare. Being part of this initiative reinforced my commitment to service, ethical responsibility, and making a meaningful impact in the lives of others.
