Asaadharan project volunteer- service

Introduction:
The annual function organized by the Asaadharan Foundation was a vibrant event held at a government school adopted by the NGO. The function aimed to celebrate the students’ achievements, talents, and learning over the year while providing them with an enriching experience beyond the classroom. The event involved various performances, activities, and participation from both students and their parents, creating an environment of joy, encouragement, and community. Volunteers, including myself, played a key role in managing the children, assisting with preparations, coordinating the entry of parents, and helping with food distribution, ensuring that the event ran smoothly and was enjoyable for everyone involved.

LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth Screen reader support enabled.
During my volunteering experience at the Asaadharan Foundation annual function, I identified my strengths in organization, communication, and empathy. I was able to manage the children, coordinate with volunteers, and interact effectively with parents, helping the event run smoothly. I also realized my patience and ability to support children were important strengths. At the same time, I discovered areas for growth, such as improving multitasking under pressureand anticipating challenges in advance to ensure activities proceed without delays. This experience helped me reflect on my skills and plan how to continue developing them in future volunteering opportunities.

LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills.
During the annual function at the Asaadharan Foundation, I faced several challenges that helped me develop new skills. There were many students of all ages, which made managing them quite difficult. We also had limited resources to decorate the venue, yet we were able to organize it creatively. Additionally, many parents came from rural backgrounds, which made guiding both the children and their parents during dispersal and food packet distribution a challenge. Through these experiences, I developed better organizational skills, adaptability, and patience, and learned to communicate and collaborate effectively under pressure, ensuring the event ran smoothly.

LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience.
During the annual function at the Asaadharan Foundation, I demonstrated perseverance and commitment by being present for the entire event from 1 PM to 9 PM. Throughout this long day, I remained engaged in multiple tasks, including managing the children, assisting with preparations, coordinating parents, and helping with food distribution. Despite the challenges of handling a large number of students, limited resources, and guiding parents from rural backgrounds, I stayed focused and committed to ensuring that the event ran smoothly and that all participants had a positive experience.

LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively.
During the annual function at the Asaadharan Foundation, I learned the importance of working collaboratively with other volunteers. We divided responsibilities by assigning different areas and groups of children to manage, while also organizing different gates to tie identification bands on the parents. During food distribution, we further segregated ourselves to cover multiple gates, ensuring that each child received their food efficiently. This division of tasks and teamwork allowed us to manage a large number of students and parents smoothly, highlighting how collaboration and clear communication make challenging tasks more manageable and effective.

LO6 – Engagement with issues of global significance.
Through my volunteering at the Asaadharan Foundation annual function, I engaged with the global issue of access to quality education (SDG 4). Many children from underprivileged backgrounds face challenges in receiving proper education and opportunities for holistic development. By supporting the annual function, I contributed to creating an enriching experience that celebrated the students’ learning, talents, and growth outside the classroom. This experience highlighted the importance of initiatives that promote equitable access to education and provide underprivileged children with opportunities to develop their skills, confidence, and potential, addressing a key global challenge.

Conclusion:
Overall, volunteering at the Asaadharan Foundation annual function was a rewarding and eye-opening experience. It allowed me to develop important skills such as communication, organization, teamwork, and empathy, while also challenging me to persevere and adapt under pressure. It was incredibly heartwarming to see children of all ages, coming from underprivileged backgrounds, perform so beautifully and with such excitement, and to witness how happy and proud they were during the event. This experience gave me a deeper understanding of the importance of providing quality education and enriching experiences, and reinforced my commitment to service, personal growth, and making a positive difference in the lives of others.
