FSMUN 11.0 Decor (Creativity)

As a newcomer in the world of FSMUN, I had the opportunity to work for the first time in an Organizing Committee during the 11th edition of FSMUN. Before, I have never done a Model United Nations (MUN) or facilitated it previously. So while my major role was to help out in the decor, my intention was to explore the space, learn the logistics of the entire process and experience the entire two day journey of FSMUN. From working on the decor, to preparing the certificates and to attending the event, it was really fun! I was really impressed by the heads and their passion towards making the event successful, which made me want to step forward and become more responsible at the event and work collaboratively with the OC members. Thus, this helped me to complete my CAS experience more passionately.

Learning outcome 5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.

Generally, for me working in group is completely okay but sometimes it gets difficult. However, It also depends with whom are you working with? and how there behavior is while they are working with me?. So, if the group is a good listener and believe in accepting other people’s ideas than working with them becomes easier. However, It becomes difficult to cooperate with the people with whom the case is vice versa. If we talk about working with others for FSMUN, working with them was easier, as they were easy going with the things. With that, they have not put their ideas on us for the decor of each and every committee, instead, they gave OC’s an opportunity to handle the committee’s minimal decor. A Point that I have noted is that working collaboratively has more advantages over it’s disadvantage. I know that 30 people in a group, means 30 minds and 30 ideas, Thus, 30 different perspectives. However, Out of these 30 minds there is a highest probability of 5 to 7 people having the best ideas. Also, When you work collaboratively the roles are divided and thus there is no load on the one person of managing all alone and also it makes the work more easier and faster. At the start of our early ins we had to make the decor for DJ night (the neon night) and for that some people were making circles and other people were sticking it on the strings for making the hangings. Then, there was writing work, where the certificates of 250 to 300 delegates was to be written and the ID card’s were also supposed to be named, so we all have divided the work and completed it within 2 to 3 days.

Learning Outcome 4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences.

Commitment in each an every work is necessary, as these commitments leads to more greater opportunities. Preparing for days was not that difficult. However, managing approximately 300 delegates was not a cup of tea. The commitment was necessary throughout FSMUN, commitment towards early in’s, towards are assigned committee’s decor, towards managing 2 days perfectly. Committing towards things that are my responsibility, is easy for me, and I always try listen to people and their perspectives, as it might happen that at that point they are right. However, I still stay on my words and stick to my responsibilities if people demotivate me by saying that I can’t do it. I believe, that if people are giving you chance and the opportunity, there is a reason behind it and then it’s your responsibility to build that trust and be committed to the work. These commitments leads to more better work and opportunities.

Learning Outcome 6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance.

FSMUN was a great opportunity to engage with the issues of global importance, from climate change and human rights to global health crises and economic inequality. As a part of my role, I just to be at the assigned committee room and manage things there but it obviously has a direct advantage for me. I had opportunity to watch How an MUN works ? also experience heated arguments or debate on the topics that are a concern for the whole world.

Watching them engaged in debates, I was reminded of the importance of youths involvement in global issues. This experience has deepen my understanding of different countries relation based on different topics like veto power, human rights, climate change and etc. I understood that deep knowing about the global issues and a deep discussions on them will inspire me to continue seeking ways to contribute positively to the world around me. knowing about the global issues and the arguments, it has extended my knowledge, it has forced to think about what my role is as a part of a society or a world ?

Looking back, my role as an Organizing committee member for FSMUN has been transformative experience. The learning outcomes from CAS – Collaboration, Commitment and perseverance, self management and Knowledgeable. This has shaped my overall personality. These will help to approach future challenges with confidence, knowing that these skills are enough to overcome them.
