Cross Country: Activity

Running or simply going for a jog on a treadmill is a practice I have maintained for a long time. So when the school presented an opportunity to participate in 3 runs outside the school property of 3km each as an activity. The experience allowed me to test my skills along with my physical capabilities. Through the experience, I was able to apply the learning outcomes 1,2,4, and 7 while also being principled as to finishing the 3kms all three times instead of turning before the halfway point or skipping a day.

Learning Outcome 1:  Identify your own strengths and develop areas for growth

Since I consistently go for a jog, I have built a skill or endurance that allows me to run a greater distance. However, I have never considered running competitively. This experience was a way to test my physical abilities, especially my endurance while also developing my speed and maintaining consistency. While I was unable to place in the first 3, I was a close fourth the third time ran in comparison to the 6th on the first time. This shows an improvement in terms of my performance and also provides me with an area of growth which is to increase my speed over time.

Learning Outcome 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills.

Since I run indoors, going for a run in the hot temperature outdoors was quite difficult. Due to the inconsistent temperature, and uneven roads, even the 3km seemed a lot more difficult and hence was a challenge. Due to the road conditions, there was a greater amount of stress on the feet which made the activity much more difficult and harsh on the body. Combining this with the sunlight due to the season, it took a lot of willpower to continue with the race and not quit. Thus, this experience did have its own challenges however it built my skills in terms of being able to run in different conditions and build strength.

Learning Outcome 4: Show perseverance and commitment in the CAS experience.

Since the activity was 3 days, I had to prove my commitment by being present for all three runs, instead of going for only 1 or 2 days. My presence proved my commitment to the CAS experience while also shedding light on my perseverance since I continued with the runs even after I was exhausted and wanted to give up.

LO7 – Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions.

I was principled to be present for 3 days of the run rather than having my attendance falsely marked, or quitting halfway. Moreover, instead of returning with the ambulance on the runs, I made sure to complete each one honestly, no matter how difficult I found it to be. This shows that I recognized the commitment needed for this experience while also fulfilling the requirements.

Conclusion:

To sum everything up, this experience allowed me to test my physical ability as well as my health. I demonstrated the learning profile attribute principled throughout the activity and was also able to find areas of development on which I can work in the future.
