Freshers Dance

Strand: Activity

As a Grade 12 student, I had the opportunity to participate in the Freshers’ Day celebration held to welcome the incoming Grade 11 batch. I was part of the dance team that performed at the event, and in addition to performing, I co-choreographed one to two dance sequences in collaboration with another student.

LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Through this experience, I became more aware of my abilities as a performer and choreographer. I recognized that I have a strong sense of rhythm and spatial awareness, which helped during choreography and group coordination. At the same time, I realized that I need to further develop my skills in leadership and time management, especially when balancing rehearsals with academic responsibilities.

LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
Choreographing part of the performance was both exciting and challenging. It required creativity, clarity in teaching the steps to others, and the patience to revise sequences based on feedback. This was my first time officially choreographing for a large group, and I developed a better understanding of how to structure movement to match music, energy levels, and stage space effectively.

LO5 – Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
This experience highlighted the importance of collaboration. Working with another student to choreograph required constant communication, adaptability, and compromise. As a group, we supported each other during practice sessions and worked towards a common goal of delivering a coordinated and enthusiastic performance. The sense of team spirit played a major role in making the event successful.

LO6 – Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
While planning and performing the routine, we were mindful of ensuring that our content was culturally appropriate, respectful, and inclusive. This included careful selection of music and choreography that aligned with the school’s values and the diverse student body. We made a conscious effort to create a welcoming atmosphere for the new students through positive and uplifting performances.
