Cross-country running was one of the most physically demanding experiences that helped me build endurance and mental discipline at the same time. Unlike regular track events, cross-country required adapting to different paths like mud and uneven roads. Running in these conditions was tiring and sometimes frustrating, but each race helped me understand my limits better and motivated me to improve. Over the journey of 3 races, I was able to stay focused, develop self-discipline, and work toward personal goals through consistent effort.
LO1: Identify Own Strengths and Develop Areas for Growth
One of my key strengths throughout the season was stamina. I was able to keep a steady pace during long-distance runs, which helped me stay consistent throughout the races. However, I noticed that my form and breathing technique needed work especially when running on uneven paths. Getting tired early during those stretches made me realize the importance of efficient movement and breathing. With practice and feedback, I started paying more attention to stride control and posture, which gradually improved my overall performance.
LO2: Demonstrate That Challenges Have Been Undertaken, Developing New Skills
Running on rough and unfamiliar paths was a challenge. Humidity, muddy tracks, and steep slopes made it harder to maintain focus and speed. It made me want to stop mid-run, but pushing through helped me develop resilience. I also learned new training methods like interval running, which improved my speed and energy control. These challenges weren’t easy, but they helped me build both physical and mental strength, and I became more confident in my ability to handle long runs.
LO4: Show Perseverance and Commitment in CAS Experience
Cross-country required a consistent routine training after school, stretching, and balancing time with academics. The second run was more difficult than others, especially when I felt unmotivated or tired. But sticking to the plan and showing up for all three runs made a big difference. My pace improved, and I was able to recover quicker after runs. This experience reminded me that improvement doesn’t happen all at once it’s about staying consistent, even when results take time.
LO5: Demonstrate Skills and Recognize the Benefits of Working Collaboratively
Although running itself is individual, the training felt like a team effort. Completing the race with others kept me motivated. We’d pace together, share feedback, and support one another through tough paths. Even during races, we encouraged each other. That sense of teamwork helped me stay focused and enjoy the experience more. Being part of a group reminded me how much shared motivation and support can help during physically and mentally demanding tasks.
Overall, cross-country helped me maintain better physical health, manage stress, and build consistency in my routine connecting well with the SDG “Good Health and Well-being.” It wasn’t just about racing but about building habits, facing challenges, and working alongside others to stay motivated. This experience helped me grow as an individual and appreciate the value of commitment and steady progress.
