As a Service CAS experience, I participated in the Anand Utsav held on 8th March 2025. This event was organized as a way to give back to our hardworking school support staff. I wanted to showcase my gratitude to the Didis and Bhaiyas through this event, hence I chose to volunteer for this day. On this day, we planned fun activities for the support staff and distributed gratitude cards. We also served them snacks as a way to let them sit back and relax while we did their work. It was a fun learning opportunity for me and grade 11 students to explore various other roles.
LO 2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
In this CAS experience, I came across challenges on the d-day when we had to plan the decoration. Using my visual arts background, I was assigned to bring up decor ideas with materials provided and it was difficult to do it all in a short period of time. However, we used problem solving skills in the process and finished it quickly and efficiently. It was also difficult to divide tasks amongst the group of people assigned, yet the leaders took charge and we also worked on better decision making.
LO 6 – Engagement with issues of global significance.
This experience was for Service which helped me give back to the community and showcase gratitude. It helped me work towards the SDG Decent work and Economic growth. I was able to do activities like serving food as well, putting myself in the shoes of other and having new experiences.
In conclusion, Anand Utsav was an enriching experience and I got a great opportunity to connect with the support staff. I was able to develop communication skills while hosting and engaging the staff in games. I also demonstrated creative thinking and problem solving while initiating solutions to problems on the spot. I was able to apply the learner profile attributes of Caring and Open-minded and I used that for various activities like gratitude cards, hosting, interacting, serving food, etc.
The entire event was effective and seeing smiles on the faces of Didis and Bhaiyas made it seem like a successful event.
