Khelmahakumbh is a sports event organised by the Sports Authority of Gujarat, and includes various sports such as basketball, football, chess, track events and many more. I was selected for the U17 Basketball girls competition this year, representing FS. We toiled hard, and eventually secured the first position.
LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
I have trained for Basketball day and night for almost 2 years, and grown immensely in the sport. However, it is only when I participate in such competitions that I realize my true potential and areas where I need improvement. Playing basketball during practice and during competition has great difference. Along with competition from other great players, there is the added pressure to win the competition. After this khelmahakumbh, I realized that despite all my strengths- dribbling, shooting and lay ups- I needed to work upon my ability to give my best and showcase the maximum of my abilities amidst immense pressure.
LO3 – Initiate and plan a CAS experience.
For the success of our team in this event, our team has to practice together for a few times at least before the competition. We attended all of our PS basketball slots, working hard on our weaknesses to overcome them and improve upon our strengths. Our coach, Krushi Desai, was a huge support through the entire process of this CAS experience. We also ensured we intaked an appropriate healthy diet a few days before the competition to maximise our performance during the actual competition.
LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively.
Basketball is a team sport hence it is obvious that we had to learn to collaborate and work effectively with each other. Through the few practice sessions our team had with each other, we got to learn something from everyone. By learning about each others’ strengths and weaknesses in the sport, we are able to better coordinate and communicate with each other during the actual match. Working together is a skill everyone needs to learn, since it is absolutely necessary in the real world, where working alone usually gets you nowhere.
