The experience of rock climbing was thrilling and demanding, pushing my body and mind to the limit. I practiced belaying, learnt fundamental climbing methods, and improved my problem-solving abilities over the course of four lessons spread over two months. Climbing included more than simply getting to the summit; it also took patience, perseverance, and precise preparation. From determining the best approach to ascend a challenging route to maintaining focus while helping my partner belay, every session brought new obstacles. I was able to overcome obstacles, recognise my skills, and recognise the work and perseverance required to advance in this sport as a result of this experience.
LO 1 : Identifying Strengths and Areas for Growth
I thought I had decent upper-body strength before to this event. But I soon discovered that rock climbing calls for much more than simply arm strength; feet, balance, and strategic thinking are also crucial. At first, I had trouble maintaining balance and putting my feet in the right places. I developed my technique and discovered how to use my legs more to save energy via practice.
LO 2 : Demonstrate Challenges Have Been Undertaken, Developing New Skills in the Process
Each climbing session had new challenges, and I had to keep learning and improving. I had to figure out the best technique to go from one hold to the next on some climbing routes since they were much harder than others. I initially found several moves difficult, particularly when the grips were far apart. Instead of giving up, though, I took my time analysing the wall and figuring out more efficient ways to climb. Increasing my speed while climbing was another problem. I initially only cared about reaching the summit, but subsequently I made it my mission to climb more quickly and steadily. I had to modify my technique, employ better foot placements, and maintain composure under pressure in order to do this. I improved my problem-solving skills while climbing over time, which added to the enjoyment of the experience.
LO 4 : Show Commitment to and Perseverance in CAS Experiences
Getting up early for rock climbing classes was not easy at all. But the thrill and sense of achievement I had as soon as I reached the climbing wall made it all worthwhile. Although attending the sessions every day required dedication, the thrill of learning something new and sharing the experience with my friends made the effort worthwhile.

I learned valuable life skills about patience, perseverance, and problem-solving from rock climbing. By strengthening my physical and mental capabilities, it also assisted me in maintaining my fitness and activity level, which aligns with the Good Health and Well-Being goal. By pushing myself throughout each session, I developed the ability to go beyond my comfort zone and see setbacks as chances to improve. In the end, I am pleased with my development and intend to keep improving my climbing abilities.
