Bal mela

I got an opportunity to interact and serve hundreds of children who’re not as blessed and privileged as us and I did exciting choreographies with them along with other volunteers. This was a simple act of service yet both me and the children had a tremendous amount of fun together.

LO 6: Engagement with issues of global significance:

Children who come from government schools generally don’t have the financial condition that they can afford to pay for a fun outing with all of their friends. Hence, by teaching them fun choreographies, we are building their social lives, creating an efficient relationship between them and school. As is well known, one of the most significant issues affecting students worldwide is their mental health, particularly in India, where educational regulations are more restrictive. Therefore, even one-off weekends like this can provide a little amount of calm that kids can cherish.

LO 7: Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions.

I believe that this act of service was morally correct, and one of the main reasons for this is that it addresses a global issue.  This day was a once-in-a-lifetime event for these kids, and I was delighted to be a part of it. Even though the school had to spend certain amounts of money on organising this event, the resources being used , the tokens we gave out , etc. It made no compromises which made it even more ethically favourable and had a huge impact on the children too. We also gave out free nutritious food for the children along with a few stationary items considering that they might have been tired after the event and might not be able to afford new stationary each academic year.

Overall this is an experience I will always remember and cherish especially the smiles I got to bring on the faces of countless children through a simple act of kindness and service.
