Cross country is basically a race but like a marathon on uneven, bumpy terrain, where runners can build endurance and strength. This time, though, our school organized it as a race, so the experience was all the more challenging. The 5 km distance and poor weather conditions tested me to the limit. My sole intention was to win the race . I was competing against individuals and also against myself to see if I had the endurance to complete such a race. It was a test of endurance and determination. And also I won the race with a lead of 1 min from the second place.
LO1:Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Having raced in three or four cross-country races previously, I knew I was capable of running at my best—and I did. Winning the race only proved to me that experience and desire are my strong points. But I didn’t finish the race in the time I had been hoping for, and that taught me that we can always improve. To be able to see this motivates me to work even harder and further develop my skill-set. To know our weaknesses and strengths is how we can move forward, to get better instead of staying the same. In order to be longer and faster, I am able to challenge myself more and know that wellness and health will always be of the highest importance.
LO2:
The most intimidating challenge in the cross-country race was running 5 kilometers in blistering heat. While I had run in a number of cross-country races before, I was not used to running in heat. In compensation, I drew on my experience and confidence in myself, being sure that I could do it and get through it even if it was uncomfortable. Completing the race was extremely fulfilling, as it was not just about physical endurance but also about overcoming mental challenges and building my self-confidence. Participating in challenges like these is necessary because they push us outside of our comfort zone and identify areas for improvement. I also learned my pacing method through this race—maintaining a consistent, controlled pace rather than burning out early. This skill will be beneficial in future races and fitness activities, confirming the idea that endurance sports are as much about strategy as willpower.
LO4:
Running in the scorching sun for a distance needed sheer willpower and determination. Despite the toughness of the race, I was determined to complete it and show myself that once I embark on something, I complete it no matter what. I needed to maintain a clear mind and fight off spells of fatigue in order to remain on track. I learned the value of grit from this since it plays a decisive role in the fulfillment of any dream in sport or life. Conquering adversity in such activities endows one with mental strength and resilience that are necessary for long-term development.
