Invictus International School in Amritsar hosted the Young Entrepreneur of the Year Challenge 2024, which was a fantastic chance to combine creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork. I was able to implement my love of sustainability by creating an environmentally friendly startup idea for this esteemed entrepreneurship competition. I underwent tremendous personal and professional development during this journey, accepting a variety of positions and duties that challenged my skills and deepened my grasp of entrepreneurship.
As part of the challenge, my team and I developed a business plan for our startup concept, Oikos, which offered eco-consulting services to businesses and households, assisting them in implementing environmentally friendly practices.
LO1. Identify your own strengths and develop areas for personal growth.
I was forced to consider my advantages and disadvantages by this challenge. I became aware of my capacity for critical analysis and creative thought, which aided in the creation of a viable business plan. But I also recognised areas that needed work, like delegation and time management, which I addressed during the competition. I improved my leadership abilities and increased my confidence in my decision-making skills through constant self-reflection.
LO2. Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.
It took a great deal of research, problem-solving, and strategic planning to compete in this competition. Finding creative ways to make our startup idea genuinely sustainable while guaranteeing its viability in the real world was one of the most difficult tasks. I developed new skills in market analysis, financial forecasting, and public speaking, which helped me present our startup effectively to the judges. Overcoming these obstacles improved my resilience and flexibility.
LO3. Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience.
My team and I planned every stage of the creation of our business model from the beginning. We looked into market trends, analysed possible obstacles, and held brainstorming sessions. The significance of methodical planning and execution was emphasised by this experience. Our startup idea was in line with both business viability and environmental sustainability because every choice was supported by extensive research.
LO4. Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences.
There were times of doubt and setbacks during the competition. But we persisted because we were committed and persistent. We devoted numerous hours to honing our business plan, creating presentations, and getting input to make our concepts better. In the end, this dedication paid off as we were recognised for our diligence and perseverance by receiving the Gold Finalist Award.
LO5. Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.
The importance of teamwork was one of the main lessons learnt from this experience. My teammates and I were able to efficiently divide tasks and capitalise on each other’s strengths by working closely together. Our success was largely due to our open communication, effective dispute resolution, and mutual support. In addition to strengthening our project, this teamwork enhanced our educational process.
LO6. Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance.
One of the most important global issues that our startup sought to address was environmental sustainability. By creating a business plan that emphasised environmentally friendly solutions, we added to the larger discussion about sustainable entrepreneurship. This experience strengthened my grasp of global issues and reaffirmed my resolve to use creative business practices to improve the environment.
LO7. Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions.
I had to carefully weigh the ethical ramifications of our business decisions as a young entrepreneur. We made certain that our startup idea followed moral business principles, like encouraging fair trade, using sustainable materials, and upholding transparency. A key component of our project was realising how our decisions affect people and the environment, which helped us make more thoughtful choices.
Concluding, My perspective on sustainability and entrepreneurship was changed by the Young Entrepreneur of the Year Challenge, which was more than just a contest. I became a more capable, self-assured, and moral businessperson, prepared to face new challenges with an innovative and accountable mindset. Although I was proud to receive the Gold Finalist Award, the real prize was the priceless knowledge and insights I acquired during the process.
