Pi – Day

For Pi Day 2025, I joined the decor team, giving me a chance to express my creativity in a meaningful way. Working on the event’s decorations allowed me to dive deeper into my artistic skills and bring them to life for the celebration. The process came with its challenges—whether it was sourcing the right materials or determining the best way to present our designs—but overcoming them made the experience even more rewarding.

LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

Being part of the décor team was a learning experience that pushed me out of my comfort zone. Initially, I struggled with collaborating with my batchmates and often found my impatience getting in the way. However, through this event, I discovered one of my strengths—my drawing and cutting skills, which I had developed in Product Design. These skills played a crucial role in creating decorations and will continue to benefit me in future subjects like Design Technology. At the same time, I recognized the need to improve my teamwork and patience. As the event progressed, I gradually became more comfortable working with others, improving my communication and collaboration skills. This experience helped me grow both creatively and personally, strengthening abilities that will support me in future projects.

LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills.

During our Pi Day preparations, we faced significant challenges, including poor management, inconsistent participation, and a general lack of artistic skills among the team—including myself. However, I was eager to learn and took on the challenge of improving my creativity. One of my key contributions was designing a Photo Cutout Stand of Sir Albert Einstein and collaborating on aesthetic boxes to highlight the occasion. Through this, I developed a new skill in selecting contrasting colors to enhance visual appeal, something I had never focused on before. Additionally, we prioritized sustainability by minimizing waste in our decorations so they could be reused in the future. Despite the difficulties, this experience helped me grow, proving that overcoming challenges leads to valuable skill development

LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience.

The process of planning the décor was a challenge, as it required incorporating everyone’s ideas and reaching a consensus on the final design. This experience taught us that patience was essential. To ensure the event’s success, our team remained dedicated, even attending early-morning sessions to stay on track and meet deadlines without unnecessary confusion. The design process involved continuous trial and error, as we had to refine our ideas based on feedback and practical limitations. Our commitment to improving the designs despite obstacles demonstrated perseverance and determination. Balancing my responsibilities in the décor team alongside academic commitments required strong time management and prioritization skills. Additionally, being an active member of the team—attending meetings, contributing to brainstorming sessions, and collaborating on tasks—reflected my dedication to the project. Staying engaged throughout the process reinforced my commitment to the team.

LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively.

Effective teamwork relied heavily on clear communication, as we had to express our ideas clearly, actively listen to each other, and provide constructive feedback. This ensured that everyone stayed aligned and contributed to a more unified final product. Collaboration also meant efficiently dividing tasks, and for this event, we collectively assigned responsibilities to maximize productivity. Working with a team exposed me to diverse perspectives and creative approaches, which led to innovative ideas and enriched the final outcome of our décor pieces. Through this collaborative experience, I gained valuable skills in teamwork, problem-solving, and adaptability, ultimately enhancing my overall learning and appreciation for shared efforts.

Participating in the Pi Day decorations allowed me to be both Reflective and Open-Minded throughout the creative process. I constantly evaluated my artistic skills, considering how my designs could enhance the event’s visual appeal and finding ways to improve my drawings and aesthetics. This opportunity pushed me to think critically about color choices, composition, and presentation while also embracing feedback. Working with my colleague required open-mindedness, as we frequently exchanged ideas, respected each other’s opinions, and made collective decisions to refine our designs—especially while creating the aesthetically appealing boxes that highlighted the event. Our willingness to accept suggestions and make last-minute changes, like incorporating a number tree using a real tree and adding Pi symbols on an empty blackboard, helped elevate the event’s atmosphere. This experience reinforced the value of self-reflection and collaboration, showing me how being adaptable and open to different perspectives leads to a more creative and successful outcome.
