University Fair Volunteering – (Service)

As an 11th grader preparing for college applications, all the information about colleges and universities is invaluable, and helps take off the stress and anxiety bit by bit. The University Fair was a significant event that provided an excellent opportunity for prospective students to explore various higher education options, learn about programs, and engage with university representatives. It was an important event not only for students looking to advance their education but also for those of us involved in organizing and assisting, as it gave us a chance to develop skills that are crucial for future endeavors.

LO3 – Initiate and Plan a CAS Experience
In preparing for the University Fair, I was involved in the initial stages of planning, including coordinating with university representatives, setting up booths, and ensuring that all materials were in place. I had to think critically about logistics, timing, and how to make the event both informative and engaging for the attendees. This required me to take initiative, manage tasks efficiently, and develop a clear strategy to ensure the event ran smoothly.

LO5 – Demonstrate Skills and Benefits of Working Collaboratively
Working collaboratively was essential during the University Fair, as I worked closely with other volunteers and university staff to ensure the success of the event. From managing the flow of visitors to troubleshooting any issues that arose, effective teamwork was key. We divided responsibilities, communicated regularly, and supported one another throughout the day, which ultimately made the event run seamlessly. This experience reinforced the importance of collaboration in achieving a shared goal.

LO7 – Recognize and Consider the Ethics of Choices and Actions
While planning and executing the University Fair, it was important to consider the ethical implications of our actions. This included ensuring that all the information provided to students was accurate, transparent, and fair. Additionally, we made sure to be inclusive and considerate of all prospective students, regardless of their background or academic interests. It was a reminder of the responsibility we have to act ethically and provide equal opportunities for everyone involved.

Overall, this service experience at the University Fair not only allowed me to contribute to the community but also helped me develop essential skills such as planning, teamwork, and ethical decision-making.
